What I would do for a job… I want: The great Escape| Concept art + Job hunting

Hey, hi, how you doing— now that I got that out of the way…we have to discuss what I will to do to never work, what I know as a. “Regular 9-5“. I feel like this  honestly needs to be a video. So let me know in the COMMENTS BELOW if I add more details and make this an official STORY TIME.

Background

Jumping into this mess— I‘m looking for a job. It was never my plans to be full time this long . After 200+ application over the last 2 years , I’ve managed to only get about 3-4 interviews ( OBVIOUSLY, NO LUCK behind them). So if I wasn’t clear what my next step was…It was lying on these job applications.  I mean there is always a training period so, I would do my best and research the skills after applying for a better chance.

At some point in this journey— I was getting my resume together for a reg. Job search, to only realize, I really hated the idea of  having a job I didn’t really enjoy . I decided to put together an art resume— not  really thinking or knew how to start working with in the industry. I had a few connections, sat down in some meeting and did my research. So the search is on. But it wasn’t going to be easy…

“‘(I also lied on this app too…)””

ESCAPELY

So, I sadly living in the middle of the country, there isn’t much opportunity for work within the art industry. Also I’ve noticed most of my regular jobs have been opportunities giving to me by those I knew and them recommending me. So I had no real credit behind my name— and quickly discovered that my (1) connect and my talent will only get me so far.

But that never stopped y’all girl from bring the confidence —- I applied to anything that was close to what I knew I could mastered in or could quickly finesse. Looking through my denied emails as I did every day, I noticed I received an email inviting me to submit more than just my disappointment. It was a Graphic and puzzle design position for this new start up, Escapely. I never really pay attention to where I’m apply to — and just be submitting sh*t. But this was a come up , so the next steps were, to take Notes on what is asked of me and research the company. Surprisingly. I have dabble with in this genre or community before ( the world of escape room puzzles) but, never quite designed a puzzle.

 CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

So, at this point I had to find time in my already busy schedule to make up entire concepts off the top of my head. All to just make sure the door would remain open for me. FML ,tbh… but HERE WE GO.

I was taught to keyword search when researching— and didn’t properly research what I needed. Seeing escape room, packaging and puzzles were my only notes for the job and what was I made required of me. So after I spent hours on this concept I was already struggling on, I went back to notice at that moment, I was to design multiple puzzles within a room to escape from. See I misunderstood what was asked of me with in the email, and quickly drew the concept art for rooms. I was not thinking that I was suppose to curate a story and take people on a journey. Never the less, I had one concept room down and started planning a 4-5 puzzles based off a more extensive look with in  the company.

Rule #1 for creating — your first idea or any idea, is a guide and doesn’t need to be the blue print.

What took me hours became days and o was slowing about to miss out on this opportunity. So Instead of the (2) puzzles needed from me, I finished the prompt and finessed few examples of marketing I had over all … I just submitted my puzzle today and I’m nervous. I’ll update you all on what happens next but, till then enjoy the concept art for now.

Yes, these are the solutions and the story behind this might be in the story time, if y’all wanted a video for that— remember to comment below ( poll will be publicly ).

I had to make an additional portfolio for my graphic design career.

Okay byeeeeee.
