The Last Stand of Krieg- Part 1 - The Commander

Hi Folks,

Here is the first episode of my "The Last Stand of Krieg" Diorama/ Unit for the last German Golden Demon Contest.

In this first Video, we will take care of the Commander!

The model is really astonishing, although being over 10 years old- it has an insane level of detail. I wanted to do it justice and tried to paint him as crisply as possible.

Honestly I also got new Optivisors from my amazing wife for my birthday .. So now I can see it ALLL .. and that helps a lot
Muhahahahaha

Also a big Shoutout to Simon Black, who exchanged the DKK HQ unit with me!

This year's Golden Demon marks the 21st anniversary of me going to the painting contests and going to the Golden Demon. The GD is now back in Germany after a looong 11 years pause and I wanted to create something special.

I always adored the Death Korps of Krieg Models, I have even entered them to the GD in the past and they won me 2 Trophies back in 2007 and 2009.

So I wanted to return to the krieg models but with a personal twist..

I used the Cities of Sigmar Fusil-Major on Ogor War Hulk to create a Bodyguard Ogryn for my Commander. "Hans" the Trench-Ogryn!

I love conversions like this, they really help to tell your own little stories within the universe of games workshop.

I never like the overly mutated super-potato faces that GW calls Ogryns,

I wanted to create something a little more human-like, thin, strong, and lean so he could easily maneuver through the trenches.

But we will take care of Hans in the second Episode of the "The Last Stand of Krieg" video series.

As we need 3 guys for a unit entry I decided to add the Standard Bearer from the HQ team and an awesome little trench base.

Before I let you enjoy almost 2 hours of painting fun for our Commander...

let me say a few words on the Golden Demon, or basically any miniature painting contest:

Embrace the competition, but don't get sour!

Not winning is not losing!

The past Golden Demon had about 1000 entries, most of them outstanding.

In the end, the Judges give around 14 gold, 14 silver, and 14 bronze trophies.. so 42 models out of 1000 plus have the chance to get placed.

And if you have entered more than one painting contest with the same models, you might have experienced that you get a gold medal on one show and a bronze on another show.

It shows you how vague, trophies and medals can be.

Trophies are just vague signposts of your personal skill development along your journey as a painter.

Care about the competition but not the outcome...

:D This only works to a certain point because we invest so much passion and time into our creations. So we feel we deserve recognition.

Never let it discourage you, miniatures are something personal, we are all looking for different things (it might be, atmosphere, technically perfect blending, texture, storytelling, or whatever).

My Krieg boys got a commended card, but seeing and acknowledging what other people created for a show like that, leaves you in awe.

I am super proud of my little unit, especially if I compare them with the Kriegs that I painted back then for the golden demon.

It shows all the things that I have learned along the way,

I understand Material, surface, texture, and material definition in a very different way now, compared to back then.

Alright, now have fun and enjoy the video!!

Cheers for the support and sorry for the silence last moth.. I was really in a painting tunnel
