Hi Folk,
here is the first chapter of our new project "Waiting for Snow White" - the 7 dwarfs from Lucas Pina.

In this chapter we will discover how to create a detailed reference picture with a directional light shining through a window.
We will also see what we can actually learn from studying the light and shadows from a reference picture analyses with a single light source, like in a typical zenithal light set-up.

I have created a couple of different window silhouettes, that makes it super easy to recreates something similar at home, they are attached to this post.

Working with a reference picture allows us to really observe the light and shadows.

We can decide where our light sources need to be placed to create the desired atmosphere. You can see on the picture below that we need at least two light sources to not loose all the information in the shadow area.

I decided to go for a light set up with one warm defuse light source (in the room) and one cool light source shining trough the window.

you can even work with different colored light sources to make the effect more visible.
In the next chapter we will see how we can use a Grisaille under-painting to sketch in the different light sources.
I hope you enjoy this project!
Thanks for your support
