secret to a better wet palette

Hey Folks,
before there will be the long awaited release of the video
of Sneaky Pete from the  FER Signature Series: Romain Van den Bogaert
early next week let´ s have a look at something that I have discovered regarding the lifetime of your wet palettes.

I usually use the cheapest kind of paper towels for setting up my wet palette. I never thought it would make a difference what kind of paper towels you use... I was wrong!
Check out this short wet palette test video to see yourself what a small change like this can do to your painting experience.

A few notes to my set-up:
The average room temperature was about 24-25 °C/77 F, so pretty warm.
Also there where a lot of studio lights.. I usually dont close my palette and as I normally dont have the lights on over night the palette stays longer usable even with the cheap paper towels underneath.
No matter what you are using as a water reservoir, its important that the palette paper is as close-fitting as possible.
The more air is trapped underneath the paper the faster the paints will dry out.
In the comparison I have only tested what difference the paper towels make, for sure also the choice of palette paper makes a difference.
In this Video I am using a Baking Paper (one side siliconized) from Lidl´s Aromata.
The choice of wet palette paper is quite a complex topic...
and I think you need to test out what works best in your environment there is not THE ONE wet palette paper.

Hope you like this Video and thanks for your support

I have the studio XL, work very good. The sponge never dried, the one i actually use, i have add the water a month ago...you just have to change the paper when you have lack of place.

Hi Ben! How about Red Grass pallets? Have you seen them?

Hey Sergey, no I switched to paper towels because usually the sponges that you can buy are not white (because you would see all the dirt) also the ones that come in the stanrad wetpalettes usually have a color.I also worked with regular brown baking paper as a wet palette paer befor but for filming you need something white so you can really see the colors and the mixes.

Hey Ben! So basically you switched to paper towel from sponge just because of filming and not necessarily because the paper gives you better qualities for setting up a wet pallet?
