They can read the short manga story !! Where even a certain u.s. president comes out lol That would be very interesting. I'm sure there's a voice over on YouTube!

Personally I think that the Netflix Death Note is goofy enough to be funny and entertaining. Just don't go into it expecting it to be good and a proper adaptation. Look at it more like a 2000s parody movie and I think you'll come to enjoy it too. The best part about it in my opinion was L's actor. I think he captured a lot of L's quirks and oddities in a live action format.

Ok, so there are two Live action versions of Death Note. The Netflix adaptation, and the Japanese movies. Watch the Japanese movies. The voice actor from the anime actually voices the English version too! https://youtu.be/mdZQ-_GLzYs?si=mJgareEvlu9zPzUh

jazziejupiter

no, please DO watch the live action, we need a good laugh! 😆

Derora

It should be considered cruel and unusual torture to view that movie

J Knight

We can't promise it with Anime. We've seen some of our fellow reactors that we know and stay in touch with get burned by it and they had to go through quite the process to get their channels back up. 🤙

Will you guys ever have the videos like invincibles where we can see and hear the audio at all times? I have seen a bunch of people on patreon use death note without anything blocking it and they haven't been copyright striked. Just curious

"How do you mess up the story?" I think I speak for everyone when I say we all had the same thought. Yet, here we are. Dare you to watch the Netflix Death Note movie.

There are also the Death Note (1 & 2) movies from 2006.

Rhiannon

As for the Netflix live action… if I recall correctly, the first scene of Misa is of her as an edgy high school cheerleader with dark hair, taking a drag of a cigarette when she’s standing on a pyramid type of lift

Seven Seas

The “cat and mouse” drinking game 😂

This right here was my exact same thoughts during and after watching the Netflix Live Action adaption of Death Note. They basically made a Final Destination movie, and chose to put the emphasis and attention on the deaths instead of the heart of the story, which is the game of wits between Light & L. They were definitely trying to "Americanize" it for local audiences. They have also been working on a sequel for about 4 years now, but I'm not expecting anything better. I honestly just feel like most Hollywood directors are going to struggle adapting material in a way outside of how they believe American audiences want to see it.

The only highlight of the Netflix version of Death Note is Willem Dafoe playing Ryuk without makeup.

swingo

If you really want more Death Note after this, you can always rewatch it in Japanese lol

JC

Yes, there are some Death Note adaptation made in Japan (movies and tv series) but for me, the 2006 version nailed the cast perfectly (especially L)

Fajar Kurniawan

Yesss im glad the comment section agrees about the japanese live action one!

Alexander Alayon Jr

Regarding MQ asking how you mess up this story with the live action Netflix movie. You mess it up by trying to put your own spin on it and ignoring the source material. It's understandable that you can't fit an entire series into one live action movie but Netflix basically put death note's name to a final destination movie and it just didn't land for me. They took some big steps in the right direction with the One Piece live action series and I hope they continue that trend. Doesn't need to be an exact mirror of the anime but honor the material at least.

Flow

DD please let the fellas know that the Netflix version is trash as everyone says...however there IS a japanese live action Deathnote movie worth watching made in 2006!

Alexander Alayon Jr

The Netflix live action is *interesting*. It almost treads that line into "so bad that its good" territory, so it could be fun for yall to watch it after you're done w the series.

TexasSnyper

The Netflix American live action is terrible. However there is also a Japanese movie series AND a show, which I love. The show is the one with Kento Yamazaki (Arisu from Alice in Borderland). I recommend the movie series first- they both take different routes but that one is probably more accurate for the most part! Also, there is a deleted scene that takes place after L's death, and takes place in a grave yard. I think its worth watching Light just crash out haha

Xiao

Okay then, do it I challenge you, watch The Netflix Death Note It will be entertaining to see your reaction 🤣

Fajar Kurniawan

Yea oak already watched it Mason Quinn only watched the first season and answer hasn't seen it

Michael Aldana

I think they might’ve on their own time already I remember oak or somebody mentioning Debra’s actor in white chicks

Nicholas Scala

Please watch dexter

Michael Aldana

Honestly u guys should just watch the Netflix live action lol

Michael Aldana

I got as far as Light selling test answers and getting beaten up at school. Total destruction of his character.

LilithCain

the live action made light weak ass trash and simp

dia bukhari

I second about watching Japanese live action version, it's unexpectedly hilarious (in a good way), I already picture how much Mason and Answer will laugh at certain iconic scenes lol Plus Kento Yamazaki from Alice in Borderland plays L there, so it's a nice connection. And it's really short season, so it will not take too much from BM schedule.

Dylan Hearts

"Is the Live Action any good? How do you mess up this story?" - to answer Mason Quinn's question, by changing literally EVERY SINGLE THING about the story and about every single character. Light is unrecognizable, the story is unrecognizable in the Netflix live action version. Please for the love of god don't watch it lol

Fictional

Totally agree, don't watch the American live action version of Death Note, guys, it sucks! If you really want to watch a Death Note live action, watch the Japanese live action version of Death Note!

Rhiannon

Hello, guys) Please, when u finish Death Note, watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6uyZKk6Egk&t=914s . It's about differences between the anime and manga. Please, do reaction

DarynkaD

the live action is awful LOL the only redeeming part is William Defoe voicing ryuk
