That is Mt. Fuji in the background of Anne’s reveal scene. It can be seen from Tokyo so that is some version of Japan?

Bless Arisu, lmao, such a treasure. That episode was amazing! All the different POVs, backstories. What a feast!

I partially agree with your points, at the same time we need to remember that TV has its limits (if Netflix gives you a budget for only 8-9 episodes, you have to cut some stuff from original source). Also TV in general has its own unique structure, so there has to be changes due to many restrictions (getting the cast members at the same time, cutting certain scenes for that, deliberately not making cast too big as it will cost more money, etc.). And making show deviate from manga is not a bad thing either, look at The Last of Us adaptation, where some deviations from the source made even bigger impact on the storytelling. Plus I watched a lot of AIB reactions, in general people do understand what the dealers are about (obviously not to the fullest explanation in the manga, but enough for it being significant). Maybe I'm incorrect, but shouldn't people in Japan (who was under USA influence for some time) at least decently understand English? "Goal" is very universal English word that many nations understand since early age.

you guys might want to refresh yourselves on the rules of this latest game a third time. haha in your after episode talk you were discussing the rules and were incorrect. even after going over them again. the king cant switch teams. which is why she gave that role to the little boy. he just has to stand there and hope his team wins for him (since he is obviously not going to participate like the other teams king haha). they wont take out the king because that does nothing. the only way to win is to be on the team with the most players after 16 rounds. hope this helps! if not, maybe just rewatch the rules portion of the game again. :) also, you guys could be right about why she only had 4 people on her team this time around (that she picks the best ones and cant have more than that) but i always thought that the reason was because the team they were playing against before this one maybe only had 4 players and so she got them all on her team (besides their king) and now that is how many she has to play with against our current team.? maybe? haha oak i think has the game rules down.

Great reaction guys! Super enjoyed this reaction. The world building and slow answers were my favorite thing about AiB. Getting real close to my favorite game!

Wonderxfull

It doesn’t show it in the show but Ann is the one who beat the queen of diamond game

Yeah, I get the safety in familiarity, but at some point, I feel like you'd get bored. But that may just mean you take yourself out vs risking the next game(s) being more deadly and/or vigorous. You're correct. They only had two Spade face cards left, not 2 total cards. Fixed it but the point remains the same.

Megan

You’re right about the playing forever point, that’s exactly the problem with that game/ staying on the Queen’s side. But on your last point, I just want to clarify that there are more than two face cards left at this stage though.

WHY

For the injured player in the bus game though, even though in the show he wasn’t the dealer, the show actually has a created a very beautiful saving story/ full sacrifice circle starting from him, which I really like. (Will elaborate more on the sacrifice circle later to avoid spoilers but you may know what I meant there)

WHY

Great reaction as always! Its very interesting to hear your theories. Im very excited for episode 6 its an hour and fifteen minutes and is pretty darn intense! Brace yourselves!

Alexandra

I am so excited for the next episode, one of my favorites! This tag game is one of my favorite physical games and this episode is such a great, action packed episode. The Queen/her men's logic makes sense. If you choose her, you get to be "safe" forever. But then it is just like Chishiya's previous game at the prison, you would be playing forever. The only added bonus is that you know what you will be playing and short of being pushed off the building/physically hurt, you can't die until the very end. And with such an aggressive Queen, then it would be a safe bet you'd always win. But, how often do you have to play the game? How much down time do you get before the game resets? If it's say, a month or more, then realistically, it's your best bet. You only spend 80 minutes a month (or whatever time frame) playing then get down time versus having to play new, random, and dangerous games every few days. Though knowing the other games, even if this was a weekly game, it's still your best bet. And like you said, the Queen would just be collecting players, so how does that work? Does she rotate her crew, do they end up leaving, does she off the weak ones? She only started with 4, so she is pretty confident in her crew to face off against 16. Yeah you may survive this game, but will the Queen keep you around? But how long would you be able to keep up this life? If it were me, I'd probably stay in the game until the King shooting everyone was taken out. Then figure out a way to defeat the queen and hopefully survive to the final game or wait until it was just the final face card to end the tag game. I would want to know if this is just all there is or if I could return back in the end.

Megan

I think the manga and the series are both incredible. I only wish the show would've given more attention to certain aspects, like the dealers. The explanation in the manga really sets the stage for 1) why the dealers were cheering while watching the Beach massacre and 2) exactly how much influence the dealers had on the games. The biggest letdown was with the bus in the tunnel game. The "injured" player was a dealer in the manga and he was there to see who would stay behind with him (where it was safe). Spades being team games and if all of the team would stay with him or try to help. They also threw in the English to Japanese dictionary in the show but never explained why it was there. "GOAL" was wriiten on the side of the bus in English . If they'd used the dictionary , they would have translated the word and known to stay on the bus. The goal (with the "injured" player) .

Donna Castellano

I agree with everything you said! I like how the show portrayed him as someone who has weakness just like other everyday person as opposed to superhero. And the next three episodes are fire 🔥 they definitely take the show to a whole different level. The finale makes me respect the show so much. This show just has everything: action scenes, emotional scenes, intelligent and psychological games, plot twists, and really beautiful storytelling and writing.

WHY

The problem (or the catch) with the Queen of Spades game is even if you get to survive, you have to play the game over and over again and keep winning. It’s actually in a way similar to the life sentence in the Jack of Hearts game. You won’t ever get out of the game or even the arena until the Queen loses. You’ll be in that game forever unless you switch team and win. So it makes you rethink whether you want to stay in the Queen’s team.

WHY

I have to highlight Kento Yamazaki's acting which equally great in dramatic (I never forget his reaction in the end of EP3, absolutely horrifying experience to witness) and comedic (Arisu's immediate answer "No!" to "Are you a virgin?" was so hilarious lmao) bits. I also currently watching Death Note (live action) where he plays L, it's amazing work (even if he doesn't resemble L from original manga, he gave entertaining performance). Obviously the whole cast is awesome, but Kento as Arisu is the main drive for the series, he plays him with such nuances, respect. I liked how he said that Arisu is a gamer who never in his life held a real gun in his hands, so the show on purpose portrayed him as a complete noob in the fighting scene against King of Spades; it's so refreshing to see this honest perspective on things where main character isn't a superhero, but just an ordinary man who learns his way to stay alive day after day. Next three episodes are on next level of writing, directing and acting. I know that manga is better than the series (based on what others said), but man, I really wish Netflix would have given a much proper (if any at all) campaign to AIB rather than some easily forgetful English TV series. This show deserves many accolades. I'm glad that at least the show will became a cult for years to come. And hope that S3 will only cement its cool status. This series having NO nominations for anything on IMDb is crazy and totally BS.

Dylan Hearts

This episode is actually a really good episode. It’s a good mix of everything (a bit of action sequence, a bit of backstory, a bit of games) and it has given us more information about this world. There’re also more plot and character development, with different scenes of what’s going on with each of the characters.

WHY

This show is so cruel, brutal and diabolical at times (not only showing all the injuries and death but also the fact that they include a child in this world of games is just crazy), but the show is also so good cuz it delivers very meaningful messages and gives many life lessons at the same time.

WHY

The show’s starting to explore more about its main theme: 1) The purpose of living (with Arisu saying that as long as he’s alive, he just want to live; now contrast that to episode 3 where he didn’t know the purpose of living after the King of Clubs game; further contrast that to Aguni who has no purpose to live with guilt of killing all the people); 2) Living life to the fullest (with Usagi’s conversation with her dad and the kid as the motivation to push Usagi to wanting to go back to the real world); 3) Never give up (with Kuina’s monologue); and 4) The meaning of fighting in this world and the need to have a strong will to live and survive (with the girl’s backstory - it’s double meaning there that she didn’t just only lose her legs but also another precious part of herself, hence she needs to live to pay herself back). 5) Human nature again: Whether you’re willing to go all the way out to save a kid or rather sacrifice the kid to save your own life (on the surface it’s a spade game but it’s actually a heart game challenging your sense of rightness).

WHY

Im watching it with you guys and I think you’re onto something with taking the king out because the game is called checkmate, and that’s how you win in chess

Reem

Right! Can't wait to see that

Cristina Montero

Oh boy. Diamond Dave, if you think that’s the best action sequence you’ve seen so far in the show, episode 7 will blow your mind 😁
