I just needed to make up some appropriately oldtimey reason to explain why Sister Turner is in the convent. I mean... racism is still the motivation for a lot of shitty stuff in the world, but it's a lot less culturally acceptable than it was in the 1920's. I guess it's comforting to know that, no matter how shitty things get now, I sure as Hell wouldn't trade it for how things were a century ago.
