Coming Home (Stepfordization)

I've gotten comments on my work every so often asking me about continuing a story with an epilogue set post Stepfordization, or about what everyday life is like for a Stepford housewife. It's certainly something worth exploring, and so I decided that instead of writing a story that ends with a woman completing her stepfordization process, I'd write a story where that's the beginning. It's largely domestic fluff, with hints at what life has in store for our protagonist, and I think it's a nice, if still somewhat darkly tinged, little story.

Thanks! I often say that stepfordization is a lot like ice cream; there are dozens of wonderful flavors to choose from!

I actually haven’t played that game so the reference went over my head, but I know what that’s like to have a very specific reference in mind for one of these stories. Another thing I enjoy about this story is how it demonstrates once again just what an extensive arsenal Stepford has at their disposal. Whether it’s brain surgery, therapeutic conditioning, nanites, or magic, those independent career-minded women just don’t stand a chance!

The ending of this one, with her throwing out her law degree, was somewhat inspired by me thinking about if the female protagonist of Fallout 4 had been Stepfordized! So I was sort of picturing that home and characters, with her tossing away the degree as a nod to the game. I would love to see that scene in a story of yours too! Your stepfordization stuff is always right up my alley!

2021-10-28 02:13:10 +0000 UTCGood on you for trying a change of pace. We don’t get into this specific headspace often and turns out it’s pretty sexy! It proves there are still so many more story angles to explore in Stepford fic. The ending is great and reminds me of a scene I’ve had in my head for awhile now but haven’t found a story to place it in yet: a newly Stepfordized woman going through her house and thoroughly trashing all her old clothes and belongings. Putting all her pants and suits into a giant trash bag, recoiling at them, swearing to never wear something so disgusting again…
