Atomic Bandstand (short story)

Howdy ho everybody~ I hope you're all having a swell time!

This story is a oneshot (there'll be a few as I gear up for our next multi-part story!), and it was inspired by my recent rewatch of 2007's Hairspray remake! I was about 10 when it first came out, so its possible that it played a part in my current love of retro aesthetics.

Naturally, Atomic Bandstand itself is inspired by The Corny Collins show, only with the express goal of helping prepare a generation for the gradual stepfordization of the nation~

I wanted to also try out a first person perspective, similar to the one I used for A Runaway In Stepford. I like using an outside perspective for the most part, but getting inside a character's head, to show a first person view of what its like to be stepfordized, is a lot of fun as well!

Here's the reference I used for Alice's dress. Like the character in the story, I almost went for a floral pattern, but when I decided to change Alice's hair color from blonde to red, I decided to change the dress to better suit her hair color. It also helps that I just love the color yellow anyways~

And here's the reference I used for describing her new hairstyle. I don't believe I've ever included poodle cuts in my writing before, which is a shame. They're very cute!

And finally, my inspiration for Tye's suit at the end! I wanted to put him in something purple, which is yellow's complimentary color, to better indicate that he and Alice are a pair on the show.
