That's perfectly spelt ('coulda' etc) - we also have "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride" to indicate something that didn't and couldn't happen. (Old-fashioned phrase now.)

Thank you guys SO much for this live stream! You turned a really shitty day around within a couple minutes; I laughed so much I think my cheeks still hurt two hours later 😁! I absolutely LOVED the German edition of "I'm Not an Idiom", the whole idea, the effort, execution, and overall just the way Foil appreciated German FAHns (I guess/hope/like to think) by doing this 💛! He did pick some pretty difficult ones, I have to say! May I also say though that this is NOT what German really sounds like - I promise 😅😇😄! The pig/sausage-heavy idioms are a thing in Germany however 🤣.

Here's the German idioms that Foil read out so nicely ;) - Hätte hätte Fahrradkette - woulda woulda bike chain - shoulda woulda coulda (if that's how it's spelled) - den inneren Schweinehund überwinden - overcome one's inner pigdog - overcome one's own bad habits / laziness / ... - die Daumen drücken - press one's thumbs - cross one's fingers - eine Extrawurst verlangen - demand an extra sausage - (EDIT thanks to Julia) demand special treatment - Schwein gehabt! - had (a) pig - had a streak (?) of luck (EDIT thanks to Christine) or "lucky escape!" - Du bist doch nicht aus Zucker! - You're not made of sugar! - You can get out while there's a chance of rain, it won't do any harm! - Mit ihm kann man Pferde stehlen. - You can steal horses with him. - He's up for anything (and trustworthy). - Wir haben zusammen noch keine Schweine gehütet. - We haven't kept pigs together yet. - We don't know each other that well; don't know if I can trust you / them.

Thanks FAH for the laughs! I feel like today was just an elaborate ploy by Foil to get the lads into healthy eating and Arms sensed it somehow and backed out^^ As a German speaker I couldn't help laughing at Foils confident but, errm, questionable pronunciation. Now I am very conscious of our ridiculous pig-based idioms ... might have to get myself a new vocabulary
