Foil's Notebook for 'Staycation with your Parents'

Some of you guys have been asking about how we write the sketches. Here's a little look at two pages from Foil's notebook from when we were working on the 'Staycation with your Parents' sketch. All his really, really good jokes were on the other pages. If anyone brings up spelling mistakes or bad grammer you're dead. Hope it's at least 70% legible.

That was the first thing I thought of with that joke too! "It builds character!" Calvin & Hobbes was great.

Very beautiful handwriting there Foil

Still a big fan of that little devil and his smart tiger.

Right?! My writing is horrible, Jesus, I almost failed my high school diploma because of it, I wish I was kidding, lol.

Just Anja

You read all the sentences, they don't really make any sense. Then you read the sentences while picturing in your head their voices: everithing suddenly is fucking hilarious 😂 I love your works guys!

Hi Kristiina! That makes my heart happy! Laughter is amazing in how it brings people together. I've always wanted to visit Finland. Looks beautiful!

Hi Leslie! I was not aware of that! Just looked them up and, ah man, so joyous! Thank you!

I love Calvin and Hobbes - greetings from Finland! Around here it's very popular and it's published daily in our largest newspaper, Helsingin Sanomat.

I miss Calvin and Hobbes! "Dad, I'm miserable". "Well then, think how much character you're building". Do you catch the April 1 toons of Bloom County? The last few years, Watterson has guested and Calvin has made a few appearances, it's been brilliant!

Lovely handwriting, so legible and neat!

Loved the inside peak into your creative process! Much appreciated! Your joke about "good for the constitution" brought me back to my obsession with Calvin and Hobbes when I was a kid and his father constantly telling him misery build character. Not sure how popular that comic was elsewhere in the world (USA citizen here) but I assure you, you reminding me of the humor and wit of that comic is a compliment.

Interesting that you write all-caps... And the pressure put on that paper!

I can smell the salt air!

What's genius is that if you haven't seen the sketch this is mostly just a few everyday comments. There are so many dimensions to developing these ideas into the sketches we love!

Thank you for sharing a bit of the creative process.

My mother got dragged to the Atlantic every year. “Good missionary training “ apparently. Er ......

Also nice to see you using your notebooks! And looks like a few pages used

The mandarin orange joke spoke to me particularly strongly. As did the stones in the beach. In fact, I shared the joke with older relatives and they pissed themselves. And it was with the laughing... not the other thing. And only metaphorical.. I think 😂

So interesting to see the creative process! (Cheekily I'm wondering whether there's a link between difficult-to-read handwriting and witty comedy...messier handwriting=wittier comedy?) Thanks for sharing :) :)
