A Quick Scam Warning
Added 2025-06-18 21:28:54 +0000 UTCSorry to have to send you all a message about this (because we all love more email...) but there's been a few DMs about this so I thought I should post something quickly.
A scammer went to the trouble of signing up to be a Patreon supporter to then try and get people to message them on whatsapp to arrange delivery of a prize, and I'm sure to ask for some spurious payment.
This obviously wasn't me, as everyone had deduced. I won't ever get in touch via comments, nor will I ever ask you to whatsapp me. (Not just because I really hate whatsapp.) Folks who win a contest will get an email from me or someone on the team. There'll never be any fees to pay or anything like that. I just wanted to err on the side of caution.
The account is gone, and I've hopefully deleted all the comments.
Thanks! (and sorry again to be sending this)
James

The real name of the scammer is Ali (probably Bangladesh or Pakistan) and he agreed to do interview with me if I pay him $100. I can’t share here the screenshots from my conversation with him - I told him that my name is Christopher Columbus (journalist from Narniya).
