Should I Post New Videos Here?

Just a quick one - as I'm genuinely unsure of what the community would like. I don't post new videos on here when we publish them on YouTube, mostly because I feel like everyone gets enough email/notifications in their life. However, I'm aware that YouTube won't necessarily show it to you due to the world being algorithmically gate-kept. So, I thought I'd ask the community's preference: Would you like a Patreon post for each video?

Thanks all!

James

I don't need pre-release versions of your videos. I don't provide Patreon support to feel special, I provide support because YOU are special and want to support what you are doing. Just keep doing what you are doing, and I will keep supporting how I have been supporting.

Matthew Hang

I’d like to know when you make new videos! I’m not always on YouTube. And when I am, I don’t get notifications, sooo… You’re the only creator I pay for, specifically because I enjoy your content and find it educational + entertaining. Definitely would like some updates from you on when a new video goes live!

eggbunni

No, there's a function for that - YouTube notifications. If folks want to know when a video comes out, subscribe to the channel and set notifications to 'All', you'll be notified every time new video drops. I currently get pinged by YouTube and Discord, I don't want to get pinged from here as well, nor do I want to be encouraged to disable notifications on Patreon lest I miss something important. It feels like the wrong tool when a purpose built one already exists.

Seric

Another channel I support posts the actual video on Patreon, not just the notification. I’m pretty sure I’ve intentionally turned off the Patreon notifications (as it will never be important enough to disturb me), though I’ll probably get an email which is fine.

Thijs Leufkens

I didn't vote because I'm fine either way.

Samantha Tunnell

Also happy with un edited vlogs and random thoughsty

Gareth S

I am, also, getting a notification on Discord when a post is made there about a new video from you. I think Patreon OR Discord would be a good call, but not both. Perhaps Patreon instead of discord since I'm assuming that not every supporter is on the discord server.

Richard Vier

That’s sort of the point of Patreon for many subscribers - usually the videos get released ‘unlisted’ to patrons for a day or two before general release for most of the other Patreon creators I follow / pay for. Patreon allows you to post those ‘unlisted’ videos and then the scheduler just ‘lists’ them when you want it to go live. (In some cases it drives Patreon uptake because people are confused why there are so many comments on a video that has only just been released).

Mark Wayt

This right here. Post if there is extra content, please! :)

Jim Mo

People who want notifications can already turn them on in YouTube. And if people want to avoid the YouTube algorithm, always tap on Subscriptions instead of Home. If you don’t want shorts and text posts, tap on Subscriptions, and the Videos, and you will just get your videos fro

Brian Hawthorne

Don't need more notifications, but won't mind if I get them.

Gene Davidson

I would read it if there was extra content, but you don't need to tell me about new videos on YouTube since I clicked their alert bell to get notified by them. I don't typically watch videos on patreon.

Tim

YES!! - I would love to get notified on here, extra content also. You could post a 1 or 2 minute behind the scenes making of the upcoming YouTube video for supporters here when you do. Would be amazing and just a little added value for our membership.

Da Guru Bro

Yes, this is our top favorite, must watch platform.. instead of getting lost in other content on YouTube

Emmanuel

I would be okay with new-video notifications here if we got a little extra “behind the scenes” comments from you or a staffer who worked on it. Like 5-10 sentences, just something funny that happened or something that was unusually difficult

L

I’d vote yes as someone who doesn’t use a lot of youtube, i find I don’t really know when new videos come out and I miss out on some time sensitive ones (like the decaf project)

Jordan Jowett

I personally only consume video content on Youtube. I don't mind the notifications though.

Matthew Rebmann

I vote yes, mainly for the ability for a Patreon-only commentary that can go alongside the video.

Dave

Just post a link here, to the video. Watching videos on Patreon occasionally sucks. Though, the discord video notification does a fine and dandy job.

Macca

I vote yes to posting here that a new video is up but keeping the video itself in YouTube so that comments are not split.

Ciara Dowling

I get many notifications but would still like to see the videos here. Discord is fine for me too. I would rather not trust in YouTube to notify me in good time.

Steve Mullen

I would like to get insider notes and behind the scene descriptions here for each video

Anthony Sevigny

I have the Discord notification muted for various reasons (mostly that I get way too many Discord notifications as it is and they trigger my sense of urgency) and I'd much rather get an email notification.

fluffy

I wasn't being sarcastic. Actually didn't know there was a Hoffman Discord until now. I'm the dunce, just joined the Discord

Aaron Ong

Not everybody has discord on the phone

Chinchzilla

The discord notifications work fine for me but don't mind an extra email if it helps others. It would be great if the video files themselves could be posted on patreon so we don't have to use YouTube to view (and it can serve as a video archive for subscribers)

steve s

Wait. There's a Discord 🤦

Aaron Ong

My vote was "No" but I am 100% okay to get another notification if it helps someone else! I am already getting posts about them on our subReddit, Discord and I have the "bell" selected on YouTube.

Jeff Cerreto

Personally I’m fine with just getting the notification through Discord but I know not every Patreon supporter is on there. If you sign up for notifications through YouTube do they at least show up consistently?

Noah B

I am already getting your notifications here, so I don't mind receiving your videos here. YouTube notifications are unreliable. For some reason, I almost always get your notifications on YouTube many hours or a day or two later.

Alicia Chong

I would recommend making a feature request to the Patreon team to categorize posts so that patrons can decide what they want and do not want to get notified about. As a user, I believe Creators shouldn't have to worry about over-notifying users as long as they control customizing their feeds. I use an RSS feed to get notified of new content from my favorite YouTubers, and I do not rely on the algorithm to feed me new content. Since my situation is unique, I'll skip this poll.

Benoit Desnoyers

I personally always see when they pop up on YouTube, but I don't mind getting an extra notification from patreon once in awhile because I realize some people may not get the YouTube notification

Gabriel Babbitt

Posting them here will just split the discussion, so I'm not really in favour of it. But if you decide to do so I hope you don't post them early or exclusively here - I prefer supporting creators because I want to support them and I have the spare cash it, not because I want to paywall certain content. I prefer if everyone can access the content I'm helping to fund.

Nicolas Werner

Not necessary if you use the bell on YT. Unless you post them early here 😁

Stuart Izon

Post the video 1 day early and brand it as a perk

Orpheus YW

I'd personally rather videos posted here too. If it gets too much I can always take the step of turning notifs off of either app. YouTube notifications are unreliable for me as sometimes I get them days after a post. Always happy to see more Hoffman content! Thanks for the ask, and I hope YOU have a fruity, juicy day good sir.

Cheyenne A

I voted “no” to reposting YT here but have you consider posting patreon-exclusive videos or “early release” of YT here for patreon members?

Fabian Boehm

That's what the bell is for, I don't think it adds real value, and I would get even more notifications that I don't need

Florian Linscheid

I prefer just YouTube since I set mine to always notify me of your posts (coffee nerd that I am)

Meghan Hartman

Frankly I don't mind. I get discord ping that I can block but I'm lazy, I will block this one probaby though, I don't miss things on YT even though I blocked all notificaitons there. But others may like a ping.

Landsil

If you mean, just the notification that you put up a new video, then yes please let us know. Since YouTube notifications are fickle, I would prefer a heads up then I would go to your channel to watch it if I did not get a notification first.

Diane Simms

It would be good to have a post here to have different conversations than the ones that we see on YouTube or the Discord

Alex O'Neill

I use notifications on YouTube to know when you post. Or it's posted in other coffee communities. I don't think I'd mind if you posted the link here too, but it seems redundant. As others mentioned, I wouldn't mind BTS content here, sneak peaks of upcoming content, interesting things you've noticed but don't deserve full videos, etc. In other words, I wouldn't mind more frequent Patreon updates, but I don't think I have a need for posting the link here.

Mike Ouellette

I do get notifications from YouTube. It does need to have YouTube notifications turned on.

Jon and Julie

No thanks - I already get a notification when you post, that's what the youtube bell does!

uood5

I think you can tag patreon posts so that we can individually turn notifications on/off for certain content. For another sub I have muted parts of the content I don't want to be notified of.

Bori Vekony

Happy either way. The algorithm typically pushes your videos right to the top for me anyway (because I’m not at all obsessed)

This person's name is too hard to pronounce

No problem posting here but please make some more consistent output! The higher production value vids are great but we’ve lost most of the bread and butter content that made you great. I’m not saying group tests week in week out however too much of the longer form, higher concept stuff gets a bit too hard to digest. Please see this as coming from a place of love 🙌

Steppin Razor

For Patreon I care more about behind the scenes or extended content than the regular content I already see on YouTube

Burner Zero

I've responded with no but that possibly because my YouTube seems to work.though I am aware it's not the case for alot of people

jwjrogers

I have notifications turned on for your channel already.

Michael Blank

I'd actually person prefer they're posted here, and instead there's no ping when they're posted on discord

Javier Coindreau

Yea that would be cool!
