In a Barn at the End of the World Script

I wrote this script on a day I felt lonely. I think it would be peaceful at the end of it all, to have just one person to talk to. I think it would be better if it was a stranger. No crying, no memories, no tearful goodbyes. Just two people facing death. 

Originally it was called something different. You can see the title below. It was the first script I had a friend of mine voice. She's into theater and acting and when she heard about my channel she wanted to try.

Good morning. Hey, hey, don't move. No, don't move, you'll just hurt yourself more. It's ok. We're both still here. We're both ok.

Pause

Sigh

How are you feeling?

Pause

Laugh

Yeah, I imagine so. Oh, um, you took a knife to the side. I got the bleeding to stop and everything but... um.

Pause

I didn't think it would be worth it for you if I cleaned it or stitched it or anything... I mean, I can if you want to, I just... I dunno. It would hurt. And we don't have much time left anyway.

Pause

Oh, er, last time I checked... the clock was at... two hours? Mebbe three? I dunno. I kinda... stopped looking. I kinda decided i don't want to know. It would be better uh... for me, anyway if it was a surprise. Some surprise. Surprise, you're dead.

Laugh

Pause

Nah, don't sit up, you know it'll make it worse. Look, do you want something ta eat? Or drink? I don't mind fetching you something. The market's only a few minutes’ walk and I doubt anyone will be there... not now, anyway.

Pause

No? Alright. I'll just stay here then.

Pause

I get it. Times like these you don't really want ta be alone. Do ya want to talk about it? Or... anything?

Pause

How long were you out? Oh um... a couple hours. They updated the clock three times before I stopped checkin, they do that every half hour, right? Every hour? Don't really matter. You looked awful peaceful. I woulda woken you in the last minutes, anyway. You said you wanted to be awake when it happens. Right?

Pause

I get it. Yeah, I do, I get it. I'll look back at the clock if you'd like me to.

Pause

Ok then. It's just over here on the old tv... let me switch it on

Tv Noises

Sharp Inhale

Deep breath

Uh... less time than I thought. Thirty minutes.

Pause

Nervous laugh

Well, anything you want to do in your last thirty minutes on earth?

Pause

No, now, the more you move the more it'll hurt! Come on now, be reasonable. And stop panicking! We've had weeks to prepare for this, and you're just now panicking?

Pause

Sigh

Hey, hey, come here. There, see? I've got you. It'll be ok. It's not like it'll hurt or anything. It'll just be really bright for a second, then it will all be over. Yeah, it's already bright... really too bright go outside. But it'll be dark soon. Then we'll have about five minutes before the sun goes all supernova and... well, you know.

Pause

Hey, it's ok! It's ok, I've got you.

Pause

Oh. Yeah, I know it's not really ok. Well, what am I supposed to say? You want me to just come out and tell you that we're going to die? Because I can do that. We're going to die! Everyone on this planet, all of us, we're all going to die! What? You want me to tell you that I'm scared, too? Fine, alright, I'm scared! I don't want to die, already? Alright!

Pause

No, I'm not freaking out! And even if I was, I think I've got a pretty good reason to! I mean, I didn't exactly pick to spend my final moments on earth trapped in an old barn with you!

Pause

I'm sorry. I didn't mean that... I do want to be here with you. I'd just... I would have maybe liked to be with my family at the end, you know? It was... hard. When they all said goodbye before the phone service was cut off.

Pause

You have family, too? Well, how did you come to be fighting off looters in my barn?

Pause

Ahuh

Pause

Well. That certainly is an interesting story. You're a regular hero, aren't you?

Pause

I'm sorry. I'm sure they would want to be with you... maybe. I don’t know...

Pause

I don't know, what am I supposed to say? What do you want me to say?

Pause

Shh... I know. I understand. I've got you. You're safe here, alright? You're safe. You can rest as long as you want.

Pause

Tv noises

Beeping

Shh, it's ok. They just updated the clock again. Twenty minutes.

Pause

Sigh

Man. What are we supposed to do at a time like this? I mean, I've seen those apocalypse movies and all... still, when it happens...

Pause

I'm sorry. I know it hurts. Do you want some water, or an ice pack?"

Pause

I know an ice pack wouldn't do much... I'm sorry. I gave you the last of the painkillers in the night so you would sleep... probably a bad idea. We both could've used them..

Pause

What? Oh, no I'm not hurt... very badly. Just a couple cuts that're... um... well, they just hurt.

Pause

No, no, it's ok. I don't mind holding you. You're not hurting me. It's kinda nice, actually. Makes me feel a little less... alone.

Pause

Laugh

Yeah, guess I'm lucky you ended up in my barn.

Pause

Gasp

More afraid

Shh, hey, it's ok... yeah... the... the light went out. That means the sun...

Pause

No, no, I'm not shaking. You... must be imagining things.

Pause

Yeah, I'm fine! It just... got... real.

Pause

Hold you tighter? Are you sure? I don't want to hurt you. Ok then.

Sigh

How's that? How do you feel?

Pause

Safe? You feel... safe? Oh...

Cough

Good, good, I'm glad. I um... I feel safe with you, too.

The um... the tv went out. About right when the sun did. I... can't see anything anymore. Can you?
Pause

The stars? What... where?

Pause

Oh my lord. The hole in the barn ruf. I've been meaning to get it fixed but... I guess now I'm glad I didn't.

Pause

I never knew where that many stars. I guess the sun's been hiding um from us.

Pause

Yeah... they are... beautiful... aren't they.
