So This Happened...

Yesterday morning I woke up with debilitating pain in my left arm, hand and shoulder. I tried to treat it to no avail, so I called Teledoc for some stronger meds. They said something along the lines of "Um that could be a heart attack, son", so off we went to find an Urgentcare that was open Thanksgiving (news flash: none are).

We ended up in the emergency room, where I expected to wait for 7-10 hours of misery before anyone would even see me. But this was the emergency room affiliated with the Local Famous College, and they were on this thing like gangbusters. We still ended up staying for like 4 hours, but that's because they had to run a bunch of tests and sit around while the results were cooking.

Long story short, my heart is fine and healthy. I've never had heart problems before and I don't now. The bad news is it's basically the pinched nerve from Satan with love, and there's no treating it except to wait. No medication seems to help (they even tried the big guns of which you're thinking) and my hand has been asleep for two days now. Thank heaven it's not the middle of the week.

Takeaway? If you are AFAB, you might not experience a heart attack warning the way men do. Often we don't experience chest pain, but weird discomfort in the stomach or left arm. Exercise, stretch, take care of your muscles and your heart, whatever body you inhabit! Stay safe, friends!

And yes, at long last we DID make it to the Cracker Barrel. Pain or no, I wasn't going to sit that out. Cornbread stuffing, baby!

Don't get me wrong, they prescribed 4 different pain relievers/muscles relaxers. They don't work. If this doesn't go away on its own soon I'll have no choice but to look into PT

:( Your doctor didn't prescribe anything for the pain? It may help to see a physical therapist, if you haven't already.

I mostly spent yesterday on the couch watching Christmas movies. No amount of medication really works, but a very small bite of a gummi did help. I was able to do a complete stretch routine and hopefully that will encourage bloodflow to the problem. Because I'm telling you what, Lop, this is some of the worst pain I've ever experienced, and it's been DAYS. I can't compare it to being a kid and spiral fracturing my leg and feeling space and time explode, but it's up there.

I'm glad you're alright (ah, relatively). That experience sounds terrifying, and I hope your arm gets better soon! Back in May, I stretched after doing some heavy lifting at work and instantly pinched a nerve in my upper back. I couldn't sit up straight or turn my neck, I honestly thought I'd broken my back! This is to say I understand how frightening and debilitating a pinched nerve can be. Mine mercifully went away after a couple days of bedrest and ice. I trust you're following your doc's orders, but I'm tossing a reminder at you to take it easy, just in case. Get plenty of rest~

Just glad you’re well

*Laughs nervously* My issue is that I have acid reflux, anxiety which causes severe panic attacks, and injuries to my shoulders. I haven't had a serious panic attack in years, BUT the first time I ever did, I was at work, and I thought I was having a stroke. Went to the ER. They ran a bunch of tests, told me I was having a panic attack (which will tell you how much that job sucked). I had a couple more bad ones during my background check, and when I worked underground. The game of "is this a panic attack that's causing me to THINK there's something wrong with my heart, is this pain a result of the shoulder issues, is the chest pain just heartburn or something more serious is not fun. But I'm glad you're OK.

I've had pinched nerves line that before and they SUUUUCK. Especially when they are masquerading as much more serious symptoms. I'm sorry, hon! I hope you are over this soon!

Archibald Mirenopteryx

Wishing you a swift recovery. A pinched nerve is a rough thing to endure.
