Do you remember where you were the first time you heard Nessun Dorma? Or Queen of the Night? Or Habanera from Carmen? How about Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again from Phantom? For me, the "aha" moment was sitting in a theatre at the Stratford Festival where they were preforming The Mikado; I was 12 or 13 years old and the soprano was singing The Sun Whose Rays Are All Ablaze. I was like "Oooh, I wanna do THAT."

2024-07-19 11:22:45 +0000 UTCEven Ki is a fan of opera, though it is the Japanese variation (Noh opera and it's comedic cousin Kyōgen) that she's most familiar with! Frog should play some Italian opera for her some time, Spoony-style. The iconic Kaonashi (No-Face) from Spirited Away was best known for wearing a traditional Noh mask - partly as a pun (boy do the Japanese love puns) and partly to try and fit in. Opera has influence far and wide!
