There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but in their case it revolved around personal insecurities. It also took them a while to admit that they loved Riley. Ryleigh would eventually come out as nonbinary in middle age.
This comic is a touch autobiographical: there was a time long ago when dumbass baby gay Kae and her chucklefuck friends were amused by older women in the community who just wanted to live their best lives according to their own tastes. And we had no wise rhino compatriot to tell us we were being stupid.

One of them was wearing a shirt that said "Have You Dropped the Soap Today?" My coworker tried to get me to make fun of them with her, but I just wished I was brave enough to tell them how awesome they were.
