Franzie was not originally sold on the idea of adopting Clem. She and Alsesta had been enjoying a contented, carefree (and child-free) life together for years. When Alsesta decided that she would take in her little niece with or without her wife's presence in their life, Franzie was understandably furious. Alsesta all but begged Franzie to stay with them (all but...this IS Alsesta we're talking about), and Franzie retaliated by leaving for California to stay with a friend for a while. With said friend's encouragement Franzie eventually opted to return to St. Charlies for an attempt to make amends with Alsesta, and to meet Clem.

Clem's auntie could of or was the only blood family left who can look after her in her time of need but still the wife's attitude is zero kids regardless of relationship
