It's Spinny's World, We Just Live Here

I balk at attempting to rewrite human history for my animal people world, but to an extent I have to do so, simply because an animal people world with countless sapient species would operate somewhat differently from ours.  So when I have to fuck with history, I at least set out to have a little fun with it.

Spinny Spider is the most enduring and popular cartoon character in WwF--ever.  She is neither a person nor an /animal/, but something in between: a toon.  She would set a design standard for many, many animated characters to come.  She is a cultural icon, a pinnacle of an industry...and a bug.

I know what you're thinking: the most prevalent cartoon character of all time, a spider??  Bugs are weirdos!  But Spinny was created in just the right place at the right time by up and coming artistic genius Spod Spinner (probably not any relation to Rudy's school's principle; it's just an extremely common spider surname).  Spinny, allegedly based off of Spod's own sister, was a rascally, fun-loving, lindy-hopping little tomatah who aggressively pursued male suitors of all shapes and sizes.  Young people who went to the movie shows just ate her up, unknowingly learning and embracing the "alternative" views on family so prevalent in bug society.  Spod and Spinny helped bug-kind to shimmy into the mainstream, which is one of the reasons why insects, arachnids and isopods aren't widely seen as complete and utter degenerates by the rest of the social order (at least not the the extent you'd expect).  Bugs are totally cool!  The TV said so!

But as we all know, the delightful artist thing was just Spod's side hustle, and his true passion was antagonizing presumed Communists.  Also, Spinny World (and probably Spinny Land, I've never been out there) is freaking amazing.  Go there sometime before you die.

The fact that Spinny doesn't have enough arms to be a spider is a nod to the simplification of the humanoid form popularized by early cartoons.  Also, sorry my freehand typography isn't that great, lol.

Meanwhile a hundred years ago..."I don't want you children watching that Spinny Spider at those moving picture shows! That jazz-loving hussy!"

People who criticize furry cartoons/comics get angry if the characters' world is too obtuse (read: cow tools) or too mundane (like in the SING movies). Likewise, people are unhappy it if you create a perfect world (a Zootopia if you will) where all the animal people are soy-eating declawed angels, and they conversely loath it when you assign human ethnic traits to certain species in order to up the drama (which I will never, EVER do...I'm grossed out just thinking about it). There has to be some kind of middle ground here!

Going to Spinny World and looking for the hidden Spinnys is great, but if you post selfies with them you get accused of being a "Spinny Adult"

Chuuko is offended and won't talk to me.

Oh I love this. I also have the same issue with including human stuff like history, languages and culture in furry universes. I always wanna balance including things that are relatable to the human audience while also considering how being able animal person would influence life…all the while trying to avoid a Cow Tools moment

I'm afraid this time you don't know what I'm thinking, kae. I actually like spiders in real-life and have never squished one! Anyway, she's quite adorable, but I can't quite figure out what might've inspired her. I smell something of a rat... or maybe someone slipped me a Mickey Finn? bah, I guess I'll be off to the club later on.
