Is it any wonder why Ike is a daddy's boy to this day?
Back in the misty timewarp of the 80s, Ike was still going by Ivy (because, what choice did he have?). His mother Ida (whose incredible stubbornness we should recognize but whose ignorance we might not choose to judge too harshly) had but one daughter in her herd of big tough sons, and by Babar's tusks, she was going to have that daughter. Ida did recognize, however, that Ike and Gnewt had a special bond, and for a while tolerated what Ida called their "daddy-daughter dress-up days". Even if Gnewt didn't understand at the time that he was hanging out with his son, he certainly knew what made his kid happy.
I see Gnewt as being the sort of guy who came back from the war, got a job in a factory doing factory stuff and then stayed there forever, or for as long as the facility stayed open. I have a bad feeling he might work at Bag O Food or a big box store or something these days.
