Play FASTER With LESS TENSION! WW380

Here's a hot one for you to practice! Heed my words and you'll be playing faster AND more relaxed than ever. This really works, especially if you work on it with the practice tracks and guitar pro files below! Snag all the goodies and GET INTO IT!

This video comes by request as a refreshed and upgraded version of WW230 from around 5 years ago. Is there a favorite WW video you'd like to see given the same treatment?

You guys rule. Thank you so much for being part of our community!

Play FASTER With LESS TENSION! WW380

The more I practice to increase my speed, the more I think I’ll never be able to play at the speed I want. I’ve been doing this for years!!!

Just figured out that I have to pause my VPN to play videos on Patreon now. When TF did this start? Why would Patreon want to dog our IP addresses, hmmmm??? I’ve cancelled some subscriptions because I kept getting the “sign in to prove you’re not a bot” message and just figured out it was my VPN. I’d subscribe to any other platform that Ben is on.

Every time I work on exercises like this I find that my fretting hand just does not seem to get faster. Does anyone find that they just have “a top speed” that they cannot get past? I think I just may be limited by my slow left hand.

Eric Larsen

Hey Ben, would be cool if there was some sort of google drive link or dropbox where you could download the whole lessons files at once

Eero Kaasinen

Thanks for this one Ben, I've been struggling to pick up speed. Do you (or any of you other shediknights here) find playing with a closed picking hand lends to increasing speed? I heard that in another dudes video recently citing that he changed to a closed picking hand after noticing that jazz shredders do it, and I just noticed you do it too. It surprisingly hard to do after all these years playing with my non-pick grasping fingers flailing about.

For me, tension = gritting/grinding my teeth. Several crowns. Maybe need a "day" guard. Great point about breathing.

ThanK you for the new hit

Hahahaha

Great exercise! I do this one all the time, i must have forgotten that i got it from you in the first place all those years ago! I tried put my own spin on it a do it as a practice while standing up but found that my technique on the higher frets kinda hurt and my hand wasn't moving how i'd like it to. I realise that my standing up technique really isn't there! maybe that could be an idea for a video? Tips on how to play while standing up!

Tim

u made my day ,Schreddi Krueger :-)

I love so many of your guitars, but this one is seriously my favorite (and your new Jackson HT). Such a clean look with that monster tone. And I can’t wait to see what 4 weeks of this exercise does for my pets. And my playing

Matt Womack

Hey Unc, what Afxiii patch are you yousin' for this excercise?

John Shepherd

This is super cool. I love these speed bursts and in 30 years of playing I have never tried this. Thanks for the video. One cool variant is to alternate where you start the triplets. Eg: start on the D string, then the 4 notes on the B, then start the next burst on the next position but on the B and slow it down on the D, and so of. Makes it cool to have to think fast about where the fingers are going to go next, especially when they are asymmetrical.

Excellent lesson once again Uncle Ben 👍

What about a liquid tension experiment?

NYCM&AHole

Yo, uncle Ben, do you think that practicing without an amp (or amp sim) might have some impact on added tension?

Carlos Piedrahita

Not sure if it’s messed up but the Gp file is weird

Terry Thornton

Thanks Uncle Ben! If you have more exercices to switch from 16th notes to sextuplet when improvising would be awesome, my lines are a flow of 16th notes quite predictible and no rythm variations (I already worked ww230 and ww371). You rule Uncle Ben!

Christophe

Thanks Uncle Ben. Maybe now my Step-dad will be proud

Sandopolis

Hey Ben, appreciate these workouts. They are definitely helpful. But i'd love some shredding from a real song every once in a while. Like you did with the Megadeth solos, few years ago. You are amazing in analysing stuff like that.... Testament solos would fit right in there, i guess. Disciples of the Watch!

Mig Bugmajor

I was just thinking about playing with less tension and this popped up. Thank you as always
