Alternate and economy picking are both things i use on the daily, but how do i choose? I think this video will help you see my thought process and help you choose, too!
But remember, at the end of the day.... its all about the music and the feeling, not the technique! Remember, Eddie himself wasn't even the most hardcore picking guy, and it didn't stop him whatsoever!!!

2024-03-20 20:48:09 +0000 UTCWhat would your preferred method be for the classic triplet blues lick where you start bending on the 3rd string and then follow it up on the the 12th fret on the 2nd and 1st string. If you repeat that with strict alternate picking, you're going to continously go from outside to inside picking. With economy picking you run into issues on the 1st string given that it's a downstroke and you have to repeat the lick starting on the 3rd string (unless you do down down up, repeat). How I'm trying to approach this lick at fast speeds is alternate pick (down, up down) but then reset quickly "james hetfield style" back tot he 3rd string. Kinda like you're downpicking and you do that quick reset to land another downstroke. Love to hear your thoughts. 1st: 12 2nd: 12 3rd: 14^16

From your explanation I was wondering why I alternate pick ascending a 3NP run and when descending I use economy picking on my way back....and it feels so natural.....

2024-02-09 05:59:45 +0000 UTCHere lately l have been doing more economy picking. I used to think it was to awkward for me but I'm actually finding out I like it a lot more than alternate picking. Like i have always been a natural economy picker and i have been fighting it haha. Plus, my favorite guitar players are eco pickers, yngwie, synster gates, Brandon Ellis. I thought maybe I can just alternate pick my way through these licks. But yeah that's not the case all these flowing licks I love are economy picked haha
