Chances are you'd spend that day being super old and staying in bed, anyway, so why not just give it up? He knows that wizards are terrible at manual labor. He just wants to provide them with an easier alternative.

I mean, doing the labor yourself also costs you one days worth of your life anyway so you might as well take the deal and not have to assemble anything yourself.
