"This show is every tired Sports Romance trope presented in an uninspired way via so-so animation and infuriating characters.

[SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT]

I really wanted to like Kazuko, because we don't see a lot of female protagonists in Sports Romances, but there's pratically nothing to her character. All she does is react to whatever is happening around her. She NEVER makes any decisions on her own; her grandpa pushed her into the Combat Chef Circuit, Yamaji was the one who suggested she pick the Light Spatula, and Prinro was the one who told her to go back in time and save First Chef from the Demon Grill.

Yamaji is a boring love interest with zero personality; nothing about him convinced me that he's someone Kazuko would fall for. Also, why the hell does everyone love Toda so much? He's just a jerk with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. The whole arc with his dad felt so unearned that it basically ruined the show for me. Kazuko's Grandpa is just an old man version of Hollow Blade from Capital of Bleak (a MUCH better show.) The only likeable character is Prinro, and they were killed off for shock value in the middle of season two.
