She tried to poison him by giving him ultra-caffeine, but it ended up accelerating his mind so much that he transcended his mortal body and became a being of pure energy. This was not part of the plan, but he became too busy experiencing all of existence at once to be a mob boss anymore, so Dread still got paid in the end.
