Supernatural Season 3 Episode 12 UN-CUT REACTION!

They change the graphic for demons going back to hell regularly (I won’t list the future ones because spoilers, but in the earlier seasons sometimes they went down into a vent or up into a vent or anywhere really - Meg went into the ceiling or whatever in season 1, the demon from phantom traveler went all electrocuted-y on the plane...), which adds to the confusion and I am perfectly happy to accept that their inconsistency allows for interpretation! It’s stated canonically that if they’re exorcised fully they go back to hell, and the exorcism they use is always the same going forward from season 3 and ends with ‘Audi nos’, if they don’t get all the way through the demon can escape (like it did from Groves’ body earlier in the episode) but Sam definitely finished the exorcism in that scene before the demon leaves Henriksen’s body even.

2019-04-24 11:30:55 +0000 UTCJust a quick note on how demons work. Weapons like the Colt and Ruby's knife actually kill them. But the exorcism, like at the end of this episode, just sends them back to Hell. The difference being they can make the climb back out of the pit at some point in the future. What you also see in this episode is the first demon voluntarily leaving the body before the ritual is complete. He was just running away to regroup.

2019-04-24 05:41:14 +0000 UTCThis moral dilemma and how we ultimately feel about it was exactly the point of the entire episode. Jus in bello translates to justice in war, which is International Humanitarian Law. Just War Theory sets forth a moral framework for warfare and rejects the notion that "anything goes" during times of war. This episode specifically dealt with The Principal of Discrimination (where civilian and soldiers deaths can be justified under specific circumstances) and The Principal of Proportionality (causing the least amount of harm/casualties by any means). I always felt that Sam didn't necessarily have a change in attitude, per se, but that he was respecting Nancy's decision to sacrifice herself willingly to save the lives of the many. I'll agree with your thoughts on Ruby, though. At the end of the day, a demon is a demon. Period.

2019-04-24 05:38:27 +0000 UTCI also really liked this episode. But, at the time, I was a bit unappreciative of most things this season. It was a mess that year. The show was all over the place with regards to scheduling. Due to the writer's strike. You never really knew if it was going to be on, or if it would just end all of a sudden, with no conclusion. And, me here just pissed that there's nothing tangible really happening to solve the problems they have. Number one, Dean's Deal. I actually did like Henrickson all along. I thought he was a good foil for our boys. Made for a good episode, having him on it, I thought. Good actor. So when he finally found out the truth I was actually thinking that he'd maybe become a hunter too. Well, so much for that. You may have something there about the redemption arc ending in Death. Would be nice if they could get someone. Anyone. Well, they do have Bobby. And Ruby - sometimes. I really didn't know what to think about Ruby back then. She would come and go, and not really seem to do much. She talked a big game, though. And she seemed to show up when they needed her, so that's at least something. You're so close to the end of this season! I hope you're feeling better.

2019-04-24 04:11:31 +0000 UTCI haven't seen that. Do you have a link? If you do share it here, warn if there are any spoilers in it for people not up to date on the show.

2019-04-24 04:04:36 +0000 UTCMy take on the difference between those is that the first demon was leaving the body and was able to escape the building and the purple flash was from it touching the iron bars on the cell, while the horde of demons left the bodies, but couldn't escape. They were trapped in the building while the exorcism ritual was being done, and so they were sent back to Hell. That flashout of all the black demon smoke was the result of that happening.

2019-04-24 04:01:11 +0000 UTCI’ve got too many favourite episodes but Jus In Bello is certainly in the top 20. I loved your reaction, watching the interaction with Henrikson, seeing him redeem himself only for Lilith to swoop in as a little girl & kill them all. As an aside, you’ve heard about the SPN family, Aimee Garcia (Nancy) although only in this episode but a regular on TV Series Lucifer, clearly remains friends with the boys if you ever get to see the hilarious video on YouTube of J2, Aimee and guys from the SPN cast whilst they were abroad last year celebrating Jared’s birthday. This is why I love this cast, crew & fandom.

2019-04-24 02:33:32 +0000 UTCI enjoyed this episode too. It's not one of my favorites, but it was certainly intense and I was really mad when Lilith appeared in the end to kill off Hendrickson, the girl, and the other deputy. I liked Hendrickson all along because he was a smug SOB you liked to hate, but then I really came to like him as a friend to Sam and Dean throughout this episode, so seeing him die made me mad. I also didn't care for Sam's change in attitude showing that he was willing to sacrifice the girl, even though I could understand it especially after the last episode. And I didn't like Ruby in this episode much either, even if she might have technically been right. Morally, she was in the wrong and I would have been on Dean's and Hendrickson's side in this decision.

2019-04-24 02:04:11 +0000 UTCOne of my all time favourite episodes! Great reaction! They exorcised all the demons in this episode, meaning they all went back to hell, unlike when they use the colt or Ruby’s knife which just... kills them outright. At this point in the show they used very inconsistent graphics to show what happened to exorcised demons (in this episode the first one goes into a vent with a bunch of purple lightning but then for the group they disappear in a roof fireball!), they do get better about it eventually.

2019-04-24 01:20:27 +0000 UTCI think I'm about the only one who thought that it was Nancy's(my name too and don't think I didn't get a thrill every time Sam & Dean said my name😊💋💙oh yeah🍸) decision if she wanted to save her friends and if that meant getting her heart cut out then so be it bc she was very religious so I think she good with going to heaven and its about individual choice right instead of a room full of men making decisions for a woman again!😞

2019-04-24 01:18:08 +0000 UTCA Very Supernatural Christmas was the mid-season finale the year of season 3’s broadcast. Sam and Dean were officially marked as dead after season 2’s “Nightshifter,” also featuring FBI Special Agent Victor Henriksen (RIP), and this won’t be the last time law enforcement has them on the books as deceased! My favorite season 3 episode is “Mystery Spot,” but I love this one, too. Season 3 is full of treasures. Happy watching, Kentucky Nicole...

2019-04-24 00:39:27 +0000 UTCMe too, I love this episode, one of my favorite on season 3. I know when people watched season 3 of Supernatural at the time, lots of them liked Ruby but I really never did, the way she act makes me want to punch her. I mean, exemple during this episode Dean just wanted to save everyone like they always try to do, but that time it turns out that a demon psychopath was there to kill everyone at the end, doesn't mean it will always happen but Ruby try to makes them fill like it will. In all the seasons that will come, so many times they will have to make hard choices, sometimes like this and those times maybe they will have to make the hard decision like Ruby suggests it and kill a few for the greater good but in this particular episode, they don't get it wrong for me. We finally got to see Lilith. And I hate when the boys keep secrets to each other, because it's never working well at the end and it's stupid. I'm so waiting g for episode 13 and to see her react to S4!
