Remember that the season has 22 episodes so they will thread the main story which is them searching for their dad between episodes such as this one which is a 'monster of the week' episode. You will get to see what happens with the main story eventually and your questions about their dad will be answered so sit back and enjoy the ride that is Supernatural. As above, it is revealed when Sam is looking into the mirror that his secret is that he had those dreams about Jessica's death days before it happened which is why he is feeling so guilty about it. Looking forward to two reactions a week.

Don't worry, it won't continue with an endless formula of the boys riding to the rescue of an attractive female. But we're still in the early days when this was more of a weekly mini horror movie. But that doesn't mean that the boys get some - er - creative gratitude from the women. They don't take advantage. Amazing how many reactors watch this episode and at the end go "but what is Sam's secret? I'm dying to know". That's because they're talking over the scene where they tell you. When Sam talks to himself in the mirror he reveals that he dreamt of Jessica's death BEFORE it happened. I still don't see why he blames himself - as you say, what does he think he could have done? Although he perhaps should not have been in a relationship with her for over a year without telling her about his past. But anyway, if there's something relevant to a continuing theme the programme will raise it again.
