The Riddler Speaks - Casefile #0095

TRS - Casefile #0095

EDWARD: Chimneysweepsthehipstergiraffe asks: Does it pain you terribly every time the Batman trumps you in intelligence and strength (which is almost always)? And, nightswing asks: If you're as great as you claim, why is the Batman always able to catch you? And, psmroguesobsessed asks: So you're the smartest in Gotham as everyone's said, but why wouldn't you have the Batman himself fell to your trap and actually defeat him? Will the Riddler himself admit that the bat is much smarter than him?

I could swear I've answered these questions before - several times, in fact, and Einstein did once say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results. Still, this could be an opportunity to put some myths to rest. Chimneysweep, it does indeed pain me - if by pain you mean physical pain, since every failed scheme results in a few more fractures being added to what will doubtless be a staggering case of arthritis in a few years. If by intellectual pain, however, no. The Batman hasn't actually trumped me intellectually yet, so why should I be unhappy? Annoyed, yes, but hardly grief-stricken. He can't cheat forever. Nightswing, this ties into my other answer - because Batman cheats, that's why. A test of any given capability works because strict rules are laid down, and Batman is more concerned with putting me back in Arkham and breaking a few of my joints in the process, than actually challenging me on a level playing field. Obsessed, your question is slightly incoherent. I think what you're trying to ask is: why haven't I beaten Batman yet, and will I admit that he's smarter than me? For the first answer, see everything I've ever said before on this little blog. For the second answer, see my first answer. NEXT.
