PoV/Second Person

I personally think that stuff is kinda gimmicky, but I'd be willing to mess around with it if anybody out there is interested. And if you are interested, what kind of scenarios do you wanna see?

The situation itself in that story was just one I was able to identify with super closely at the time so if there were gaps in the description my lizard brain was probably just filling in the rest 😅 If you hate all your past work at least that means you’re consistently growing your writing skills! Do you have a favorite genre to write yourself?

If I went back and read it today I might feel differently, but I rarely do that. I hate reading my old work, it almost always makes me cringe 😖. With enough time, I usually end up hating my stories. There are very few I like enough to revist.

Interesting that you saw this as one of your worst stories. Is there something specific that makes you say that? For me, apart from the femdom setting and unique pov, I also just really liked the description of the headscissor holds in this one, which puts it pretty up there for me. My partner doesn't do jiu jitsu anymore (She started classes for awhile but then corona hit), but those classes basically jumpstarted us into wrestling around and eventually led to her stumbling into this whole new fetish. Nowadays she likes to learn/copy moves from forums and videos we watch... sometimes it almost feels like I'm the one indulging her lol I don't mean to rub my good fortune in your face or anything, I just realize how lucky my situation is and like to share it with likeminded people! It sucks that your partner doesn't really share this interest with you. Not the most uncommon thing to happen, unfortunately :(((((

I chose PoV for that story because I wanted to keep things in the spirit of the Persona games, which are also PoV. Originally my plan for that story was to make it a full-blown choose your own adventure with multiple endings (also in the spirit of Persona), but that ended up being way more work than I wanted to do for what was ultimately just a commission. It's funny to hear that you like that story, I actually think it's one of my worst :P Also, I kina hate you for having a gf who does jui jitsu and indulges your kink. My gf knows about my kink, and the kinds of stories I write, and has zero interest in both :'(

2020-10-04 21:47:34 +0000 UTCI do like how second person writing kinda pulls me into the action more, but I do understand your worry about the “you” writing kinda forcing a blank slate into what should be an interesting back and forth between two fleshed out characters. That being said, I did really like your “Eyes like Gold Coins” story. Having a gf who took a bit of jiu jitsu and realllly liked discovering this kink with me, it was a real treat to read through a femdom second person point of view story like that and just get completely immersed. 😇 There’s definitely limitations on second person writing but for short pieces like that I think the style is great to dabble in.

2020-10-04 21:37:14 +0000 UTCI agree with you, but wouldn't giving the "You" character a strong personality defeat the purpose of PoV? Like, the whole point is that the "You" is a blank slate for the reader to project themself onto. Self-insertion is literally the entire appeal. If you're gonna make them a full-fledged character, then you might as well drop the "You" altogether and just write an actual character. At least that's how I see it anyway. And we're on very different pages when it comes to punching bags. I like when both character engage, too, but punching bags get me soooo wet ;) (I mean, limp play is literally a kink of mine, soooo...)

2020-10-04 20:47:26 +0000 UTCI think it could be an interesting take if the POV/second person you're writing from has some sort of unique character/personality as opposed to being a self-insert type character. Doesn't even need to be fully fleshed out, just not a wet blanket personality lol. I definitely find your stories hotter when both parties are engaging each other instead of one that's kind of just there to be the punching bag for the other with not much else to offer the story.

2020-10-04 20:37:28 +0000 UTCI've tried it in the past with the mixed results. I definitely understand the appeal of it, but as a writer I'm into this for more than just the hotness. I like writing actually stories, too, with characters whose personalities, motives and goals clash. But you can't really have that in a PoV story, because the "You" isn't a real character. At least that's how I feel about it. I don't know, I'll have to mess around with it for a bit.
