I yelled “oh my God” at the end of that horse corner. Genius. All of these games are horrible and weird. The way MrBeast talks is really annoying, but listening to all of you try to explain the games is fun.

Elizabeth Power

My take on his thing about “stories” is that he had a chance to talk with real reality tv producers for the first time and they used their industry jargon about stories and characters in conversation with him, and he became obsessed with it because it’s a useful way to talk about how shows like that are edited and presented to their audience. Like many YouTubers he lacks training and industry experience but has a/b tested himself into producing things in very similar ways to how tv does it. Now that he’s on real tv, he’s learning a lot of the things he should reasonably have already figured out and struggling to catch up, or use those things to make work in his own creative voice (because he is fundamentally not a creative person).
