184 - The Last of Us Part II (Part 1)

The lads grab their golf clubs and make for Seattle as they hop on the Ellie murder train that is Naughty Dog’s 2020 revengeapalooza: The Last of Us Part II. Topics include the chaotic development process, the CW-fication of the writing, and the inescapable conservatism at the core of The Last of Us universe.

The commercial is now a legend, it absolutely demonstrates why I love this podcast. I genuinely laughed tears with my eyes, thank you. And I appreciate the horse corner, thank you A.J. After I finished part II a few months ago for the third time, I actually noticed I kind of like it more than the first one, even though the first one is a masterpiece to my feeble brain. To me TLOU pt II is mentally challenging, losing Joel is very hard and even towards the end I cannot hate Ellie. I feel like she is in this harsh world where yes everything is gloomy and violent and I embrace that. I embrace the darkness that Ellie enters. I feel cathartic. What that says about me, I don't even care. This game has such a strong atmosphere and I love wondering through that rainy Seattle. Also, Future Days by Troy Baker will always make me tear up, that man's voice is insanely perfect.

The mind of Neil Druckmann is infested with the cordyceps of Zionist settler colonialism and liberalism, making him think that hatred and revenge is just universal to humanity instead of being caused by material systems that divide people and encourage hatred for oppressive ends.

As someone who lives in the Seattle area, I am not fond of Seattle sports fans either. :-) Some years back, the Seahawks won the Superbowl. In someone's brilliant plan, they threw a victory parade in downtown Seattle, in the middle of the day, on a Wednesday. Middle of the work week. I was carless at the time, and it took me two hours to get to work by bus, because the number of people in downtown doubled over the course of that morning. All filled with people who only ride the bus for sports events. :-P
