I thought I'd heard it from y'all but maybe not: The state of Alaska has a "roadkill list" - a somewhat lottery-based program that any time an animal above a certain size (typically deer and moose) is killed on the road, they choose a name off that list who is deemed the "owner" of that roadkill, for the purposes of salvaging the meat and hide. Winning the roadkill lottery is seen as a momentously positive occasion. People will typically add their names as groups from within each community or township and either split the "winnings" or have a huge cookout in their town.

Also fun fact, the original owner of Stone also started one of the first micro brewers guilds in the state, and in less than 10 years was forcibly removed from it because he'd expanded Stone's production past the limits set in the guild's charter. There's a documentary about him titled Beer Jesus
