Mattie Lubchansky (Boys Weekend) and the lads hop in Benny the Cab and floor it to Toontown as they cover Robert Zemeckis’ seminal live-action/animated triumph: Who Framed Roger Rabbit? Topics include the perfect storm of the film’s creation, the meticulous production design, and the vital importance of venerating comedy that hits you like a piano to the head.

Boys Weekend: A hilarious trans-“final girl” horror graphic novel about a bachelor party gone very, very wrong. A witty, tender romp through the cosmic horror of being alive.
Temporal Culture War: Mattie Lubchansky and Clayton Ashley figure out what the hell was going on in culture in the early 2000s while they wade through episodes of Star Trek Enterprise.

No Gods No Mayors: Municipal government: a trap that catches those too incompetent, too corrupt, too incompetent even for national politics. And the greatest of these, the mayor - the highest political office one can hope to reach with a truly oppositional personality or a crack addiction. Mattie Lubchansky, Riley Quinn and November Kelly are teaming up to make a podcast investigating these mayors. From petty Bonapartes to flagrant mafiosi, these are their stories.

I don't think I've ever heard you all be so unanimously positive about something. But it REALLY is that good and deserves it.

Okay I’ll stop LIVE COMMENTING on a movie I can recite from memory but it’s called The Ink And Paint Club, all toon review, strictly humans only
Also the piano number is a reference to the Gene Kelly movie Anchors Aweigh where Gene dances with Jerry of Tom and Jerry but if we listed all the animation in-jokes in this thing we’d be here forever (Valiant and Valiant got Huey Dewy And Louie out of HUAC spying charge!)

ALSO The where that it we’re director in Hail, Caesar is named Laurens Laurenz, and the director of the Baby Herman cartoons in Roger Rabbit is called Raul J Raul.

“Had I seen this when I was ten I would’ve made it my entire personality” yeah that was me, it was basically one of four VHS tapes my grandma had when she watched me so I have seen this, conservatively, 485 times - even did an episode of Sewers Of Paris about realizing my uuuuuh “compulsive need to make a joke” might stem from it or at least put it into perspective.
Obviously you don’t try to make yourself into Eddie (PI licneses in NY are too expensive anyway) you try to make yourself into the guy who says “If you needed Money so bad Eddie why didn’t you come to me?”
Apparently one reason my mom was blindsided by me coming out was cause I had a Jessica Rabbit poster growing up, bless her heart.

Mattie said the words "punk bands" and suddenly it occurred to me that y'all have never had Dalton Deschain and Dylan Roth of Are You Afraid of the Dark Universe on the show. If you don't know them have Mattie or Patrick Willems introduce you, it feels to me like your vibes are highly compatible. If you know them and have some sort of beef... carry on I guess. (If there's a third thing I look forward to its resolution.)

I listen to everything on the patron feed and was shocked when it was revealed during the plugs at the end that this was a free episode. Such delight and informed analysis for free?! Good grief.

I grew up in the UK satellite town where Roger
Rabbit was filmed. I was a toddler at the time so I have no further anecdote here, but there used to be some benches in the town centre shaped like film strips with frames of the movie on them.

IIRC when Weinstein took over depressing amounts of finished film were thrown away because they didn’t fit into hack cut. Best of luck to those guys as they have an uphill battle.

Josh's brain misfired and identified The Sorcerer's Apprentice as The Magician's Nephew, and my brain misfired in sympathy and conjured a vision of a resuscitated Walden Media Narnia series with Ryan Reynolds horribly miscast as Uncle Andrew

You may mock it but the Enterprise theme song give me the faith to believe. No joke best Star Trek open. My friends and I will bring each other to tears of laughter or madness by slipping it into our video game nights. Also T'pol fine as hell.

I've been thinking a lot lately about the Marvel of it all: the lack of sincerity where everything's a joke and the cast is in on it, shots are all clean and boring, and the weightlessness to the cg. So I appreciate this look at a real work of art.
Two modern, visual effects heavy films I really appreciate are Furiosa and The Batman. Maybe it's just all the Disney, but GOD did they look beautiful to me!

You forgot the best line in Roger Rabbit. It's when they get to Toon Town and Roger says "Gee Eddie, it's been a long road gettin' from there to here!"

If you want to know more of the aftermath of roger rabbit, the podcast what a cartoon did one about the series of shorts they produced after the film, and the fallout of the groups involved in making them, (their 6 1/2 hour podcast that goes into fine detail about every scene of the film is also great, recommended )

You guys absolutely should do an episode on 'Pennies from Heaven'. Woefully underrated film that hits two of your special interests: musical numbers and A Lot Going On There cultural critique-wise.

In the UK our main Fanta competitor, Tango, has to my memory always had an apple version. Taste and colour wise it's pretty close to just sparkling apple juice, despite having never been in the same room as an apple.
