re: why it's called Odyssey, there's no way they were wanting too much allusion to the Greeks, considering the reception of Percy Jackson a few decades after the show started

Elizabeth

I'd read the novels and recap them for you. Never heard about them as a child, despite being an Odyssey listener.

the A literally could’ve stood for Applesauce, having it stand for Avery makes no senseeeee

Regis Blackguard has no boundaries, he doesn't flinch at torture, human trafficking, or genocide. He's not loyal to a flag or a country or any set of ideals. He trades blood for money.

As soon as I heard "Deus Ex penthouse" I thought, "I didn't ask for Whits"

”rukuta death” as a phrase has very strong “skibidi toilet” vibes

As a Wisconsinite, Brian is absolutely correct: Wisconsin has no culture.

As someone from Michigan and near other Josh's age, I have no idea what "whipping titties" is nor do I recall even hearing it from anyone. Maybe it's a depraved Dutch thing.

The offhand remark about perhaps it's an idea whose time has come again reminds me of the Trashfuture episode about Central Bank Digital Currency and the phrase used to describe it at the end: "A bad idea whose time has come"

my current theory is that Apple Sauce is calculating the 9 billion names of god and one of them just happens to be the sequence for weaponised Ruku

The word imagine in the name Imagination Station just means that it's not using satanic magic or witchcraft. Wit is a God-fearing guy who makes bio-weapons, not an evil occultist

Interesting parallels between your comments on Phil Lollar here and Paul McCusker in the Eugene and Bernard in Hollywood episode w/r/to them feeling smart. As you have noted, Lollar seems to be blissfully ignorant that any media after 1963 exists, and if it does he doesn't care, he's convinced his children's radio show is better. Mckusker, as you noted in the other episode, has higher ambitions, he knows he's smarter than the rest of the crew and seems to have a wider net of cultural references than the other writers. While Lollar just wants to reheat 1950s sitcoms, Mckusker aims at being the Evangelical Sam Shepard. The thing is, McCusker's own morally absolutist evangelical (and later Catholic) worldview kneecaps his ability to capture what makes his playwright heroes interesting. Hence the weird jealousy/ hatred sour grapes attitude towards secular media in Odyssey that ultimately reaches its paranoiac climax in the Novacom saga, which as I understand it was all Mckusker. I can't wait for you guys to get to that era of the show, its such a perfect distillation of American protestant paranoia from the satanic Panic to Qanon.
