Fancy Movie Time #7: In The Mood for Love

On this month's episode of Fancy Movie Time with Brian and A.J., the Fancy Lads bask in the colorful claustrophobia and unbearable longing of Wong Kar-Wai's In the Mood for Love. Does the sight of Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung eating noodles together make for a Fancy Feast? Or does the frenetic pace make it a failure to fancy? Either way, prepare to have its theme song stuck in your head for the rest of eternity.

I had to look up the "dramaturgically" discourse now so thanks for that. Yep, it's just a word, but if I see people doing that "(blank) is a perfectly cromulent word 😏" writer meme I will want to smack someone lol

This is the first time I've seen the film and the first 15 minutes especially really affected me because of how focused it is on people living at very close quarters and entering/exiting each others' physical presences really casually, without thinking about it, in a way I don't think I can anymore since 2020. Despite how reserved the leads are they're still so at ease encountering each other where after isolation, distancing, and the really poor way governments executed both, these days I so often feel this latent tension in crowds or even with loved ones. something something collective trauma. anyway that first sudden whip pan between Cheung and Leung's faces in the diner scene physically winded me

That goddamn audio adrenaline big big house reference at the end nearly killed me. Fun fact: that song is so bad it made me stop being christian.
