The lads grab their animal masks and letterman jackets as they dive into the neon-drenched gore and nihilistic depths of Dennaton Games’ 2012 mega-hit: Hotline Miami. Topics include the game’s difficulty, the absolutely killer soundtrack, and the cold, rotten core at the heart of America’s obsession with violence.

This was a pretty good episode.
I think the reason why Hotline Miami is a better examination of violence than say, Spec Ops the Line, but especially The Last of Us, is the manner in which they deliver the message.
The Last of Us grabs you by the back of the head and shoves your nose in it. It says 'we have a thing we want to say, and don't we say it so fucking well? we're art, bitch'.
Hotline Miami has some thoughts. It puts them on the table and lets you think about them.
Anything that *tells* you what you're supposed to think is never as interesting or as thought provoking as something that puts you on a trail and lets you walk there yourself. It also kinda says you think your audience is stupid.

Do you lads have a pact to keep each other on track and avoid excessive tangents?
Because I've noticed that all of you sometimes take charge and *snap* the conversation back to the topic at hand. I think this is really peofessional, as much as I like (to go on as well as listening to) tangents, like there was this one time ...

Hey have you seen the hit musical based on the Alison Bechdel graphic novel Phone Hom?

One thing I really enjoy about Hotline Miami is its parallels to The King in Yellow - aside from the masks and senseless killing, there's abuse of power, alienation, disconnection from reality, etc.

100% agree with Josh on the soundtrack being hit or miss, I was always really annoyed by the "we couldn't license Nightcall" score for the mission complete screen; but by the same token would love! to have more games hook up with "experimental" music legends like Sun Araw. As annoying as the boss fights are that terrifying creeping arpeggio that plays alone for the first 30 seconds I find to be just as effective as the drone at the end of levels
