As a Dutchman myself growing up in a reformed church this is scary accurate. But don’t make fun of us for finding the best deals possible to save money, especially in this economy! Haha With that being said we need more Down Gilead Lane.

Davis Vande Steeg

I joined for the discussions about video games & movies, I stayed for the deep dives into evangelical christian media but I'm seriously hooked thanks to the ad breaks. Simply amazing work. "Hide and Seek" is auch a great song and I can't get it out of my head ever since I heard your "monster duet version" a couple of episodes ago (I was binge-listening to ALL the Whits Endless Summer episodes for the last week or so). *singing* you don't care a bit... ------ If you're interested I have a little story about my experience with Christianity, as someone with a background that is VERY different from you guys: I was born in a socialist country that, afaik, still has the highest rate of non-believers in the world. My parents are not religious, but they encouraged us kids to give it a try, so when I was ~6 yo, they let me join a Bible club where I heard famous Bible stories for the first time. I even made my own little Jesus on a cross from card board and pinned it to the wall. We didn't read the actual Bible at this age, of course but instead we were given colorful little booklets depicting the most famous stories. This experiment ended rather abpruptly when my parents noticed one day that something was off with me. I was rather distressed and that's because I just learned about the story of Cain & Abel. They found the respective booklet hidden away under the mattress of my bed. I'm not sure why, but that story about fratricide had such an impact on me, that my parents took me out of the Bible course. I didn't stop praying at that point and I continued reading bible stories by myself, but what eventually ended my religious journey for good, was the disillusionment with the kids I met in school. All of them raised as good christians, all well acquainted with the moral teachings of the Bible and none of it seemed to have any impact on their behavior. I was bullied and ostracized as an outsider. It got so bad I had to change schools. As an adult, I now know that expecting kids that age to "turn the other cheek" is a bit naive, but back then I was so disappointed, I lost my faith for good.

I made it EMBARASSINGLY far through this episode thinking that you made up Down Gilead Lane and were just spoofing yourselves.

Samuel E McConnell

"Put the 'cur' in curvaceous" Holy shit lol

Aaron Whitehouse

oh my mistake I'm thinking of Colerainey Kentucky rather than Colerainey Michigan. You've gotta go deep into KY if you wanna ease on down my Gilead Lane

Elah

"Ease On Down Gilead Lane" should be a country song about how you don't even have to pay a cent to Gilead Pharmaceuticals to get your prep and have peace of mind at the cumdump. ease on down my gilead lane if ya catch my drift

Elah

I want more Gilead Lane. I want it. so. much.

My first thought upon hearing "Beyond Gilead" was a crossover between Handmaid's Tale and Beyond Thunderdome. Clearly we know which side of the predestination I'm on.

I forgot that DGL was explicitly produced by CBH ministries. My parents used to read the Keys For Kids devotional books to us at dinner, and I remember listening to Uncle Charlie Sunday mornings on the way to church. I feel very seen by this ep

Haha thanks for the shoutout! I’m glad to see Chase being pulled out of the ether.

Eldritch horror on discovered tapes is one of my favorite aesthetics. I love the way you balance the absurd humor and existential dread!

im so daddy i havent slept in a year

I haven't but I'll absolutely check it out!

The Worst of all Possible Worlds

AJ, have you listened to The Magnus Archives? It's a horror series with sensibilities very similar to a lot of your ads.

im so daddy i havent slept in a year

My last name is Morrison and between that and the gaslighting I think I've gone through the no no door

im so daddy i havent slept in a year

THAT'S how you kept winning those summer reading contests??

Nathan Woods

Oh hell yeah, love feeling like I'm going insane!

Dergon

also we could probably compile an entire cover of hide and seek from the parts he's sung so far

BrianAlflordIsGoodActually

aj was so horny this episode please contain him

BrianAlflordIsGoodActually

i did the exact same thing and was genuinely frightened that they'd created an entire bit cinematic universe (bcu)

BrianAlflordIsGoodActually

Before you dropped the bit I ended up pausing and googling frantically to figure out what if anything was real, and the first result for 'down Gilead lane' was a landing page for s1e13 which, for whatever reason, claimed the original air date was 4/1/2023: https://www.keysforkids.org/Programming/Down-Gilead-Lane/Read-Listen I cannot properly put into words how much this threw off my efforts to decide whether or not I thought this was a real thing or an unimaginably high effort gag. Had to keep looking around and eventually decide from the amount of stuff on the merch store and the existence of a Wikipedia article that Keys for Kids was in fact (probably) real, just about an episode minute before you were about to explain it yourselves. So uh, congratulations on that synchronicity. What a way to wake up.

Elaine Åhlfeldt

Omg it's time.
