76 - Hackers (feat. maia arson crimew)

TSA hacker maia arson crimew (@_nyancrimew) teaches Josh and Brian how to hack the planet as they ride the internet superhighway straight into the eXtreme cyberpunk 90’s nostalgia of Iain Softley’s Hackers. Topics include the art of the 90s montage, the legacy of Hackers in the hacktivist community, and the paramount importance of pulling a righteous hack.

Whenever I rewatch Jurassic Park and Lex starts 'hacking' the park computer I immediately imagine her in that spinning booth and break out laughing.

Great ep as always, you guys always get the best guests. I was just listening to the Michael and Us podcast's episode about Empire Records which I think makes a lot of the same points about the hauntological feelings that millennials have towards the end of history era and how we feel like we were promised this subversive, countercultural future that never delivered. The post-9/11 era was such a cultural dead zone that a lot of kids at that time were nostalgic for movies from the previous generation, when you could show the rebels as the good guys and the cops as the villains. Of course this only existed in media and the political landscape of the 90's was still deeply reactionary, but compared to the Bush years it left a lot of people feeling like they missed out on something amazing.

Yeah she released the list of people on America's no fly list. I don't think they mentioned that in this episode. If I hadn't listened to that Qanon Anonymous pod, I would've had no idea why she's an authority on hacking

Jimmy McMillan

in fairness to That Scene...i have to admit i can think of few more effective ways to frighten a cishet cop than to sic some chasers on him

Elah

Need a Swordfish follow-up, lol. Beloved Australian Huge Jackedman yelling out nonsense while furiously typing at 10 monitors. *HACKING*
