Phone rings, door chimes, in comes Patrick Flynn (The Original Cast) as he and the lads celebrate Bobby’s infamous 35th birthday in the Stephen Sondheim/George Furth deep-dive into marriage: Company. Topics include the many revivals of the show, the superb score/uneven book, and the incomparable performance of Raúl Esparza.

Just catching up on this one, and I just wanted to say the editing on this episode is perfect! I’ve really enjoyed hearing the excepts you’ve chosen, and I think the mixing of the “Bobby” chorus line under your discussion of the intermission break is… *chefs kiss*

This was such an amazing episode. I feel like you figured out a way to make it accessible to people who have never heard of Company and people who know it really well like I do. I never realized until you said it that the couples don’t all know each other. I also really enjoyed the things that Patrick said about his marriage, I hope his wife can hear that part, it was really heartwarming!
My college did a production of this show while I went there. I auditioned and had to read for Jenny. Despite the fact that I had seen the show before, I realized midway through the reading that Jenny was the one who smokes pot. I realized midway through that realization that I had no idea how you would act in that situation. Needless to say I did not get cast, but it’s funny to think about now.
At the time of the production, only one of the people in it was married. (The girl playing Marta)
Now “Bobby ” and “Amy “are married, as well as my two friends who played David and Jenny. They like to say they were married first and engaged second and then got married again.Sondheim bringing people together!

When I was a kid there was a radio stinger that went "another little ditty from music city" and I thought, "wow, there's a whole city devoted to music!"
