Omg I hadn't heard the average New Mexican man bit. 💀💀💀

Thanks for this podcast, feels like it was made just for me sometimes. I went to christian schools since 6th grade, the craziest one used ACE curriculum (Basically all from the 80s, they were slowly being updated) Plus my step mom forced me and my brother to listen to Odyssey and watch all christian movies. There's so much more crazy but I'll leave it there. Thanks for all your amazing episode choices, I'm always happy after listening, incredible discussions.

yeah this is why we try to position ourselves not as an “exvangelical podcast” but as a show that analyzes reactionary narratives in pop culture. american evangelicalism is a hotbed for those narratives but it’s not the exclusive domain or provenance of those ideas. it’s much, much bigger than that

The Worst of all Possible Worlds

Lots of folks mentioned being able to look at the violence and hatred of evangelicalism for what it is and I wanted to mention that while other exvangelical podcasts are available I've tried a number of them which for my taste softshoed the criticism to some extent: made fun of the media, described some of the darkness in the culture, but often stop short of really acknowledging the totality of it or how it is an inextricable part of evangelicalism's roots. I don't think those pods are necessarily wrong to not do that - particularly in the case of exvangelicalism where speaking harshly at all is a common repression hurdle and so many people seem to need a lot of intermediary steps to escape - but I really appreciate that TWoAPW doesn't mince words identifying the scope and scale of the horror.

The Civ episode sent me into a C-Hole as well. I learned about a "Pacifist Domination" exploit where you can win through mass loyalty conversion via Eleanor of Aquitaine & the Voidsingers secret society. It actually is a fun challenge but the game Does Not Like It and my poor Switch and PC both were crashing mid-turn by the end. The Hitman episode also got me playing that - I really can't thank y'all enough for that, the game has been how I've stayed sane through the Buffalo blizzard. I hit mastery level 20 on Sapienza while listening to this ep
