I wanted to share some important updates regarding the Apple App Store and its impact on our Patreon community.
*What's Happening?*
Apple is encouraging Patreon users to switch to a subscription billing model in order to use their app store. They will also be charging a 30% fee for any new subscriptions made through the app. Personally, I’m not a fan of this change because it means either I’ll have to absorb the costs or you might have to pay more. Unfortunately, I don't have a say in this decision, so changes are likely coming soon.
*What Does This Mean for You?*
1. *What happens if I switch the billing model?*
- For current members, there should be no immediate changes since your payment date is already set. The 30% fee will only apply to new subscriptions starting on November 1, 2024.
2. *If I do not switch:*
- Nothing will change for existing members. However, new members won’t be able to join through the Apple store app after November 1, 2024.
*My Recommendation:*
For anyone new wishing to join, *please avoid using the Apple Patreon app.* Instead, sign up through a web browser to avoid the increased charges and to help keep costs down.
