In our last Bismarck episode for a while, we settle our affairs by examining the dramatic shift in British opinion, as much of the public, the political establishment, and the press, came to favour Bismarck's Prussia, just as they came to suspect Napoleon's France. The key cause of this shift was in the Iron Chancellor's secret weapon - a treaty, signed in the hand of a Frenchman, which was explosively controversial, and which Bismarck had kept up his sleeve for years. When the time came to engage in his public relations campaign, Bismarck understood the value in painting France as the unscrupulous, revolutionary enemy. Henceforth, Prussia's foes would never underestimate its Chancellor again...

Good luck and Godspeed, Zack! As a (relatively) new father myself (my adorable little daughter is 2 years old now), I can tell you that fatherhood does change everything…but you’ll be shocked by how quickly it’s hard to remember how it ever was before your son arrived. All of which is to say—fatherhood is the one job where failure is not an option. So go do “job 1,” Zack—no need for apologies. Come visit us in the feed once in a while. I’d say, “when time permits”, but time won’t permit for at least 6 months…so give yourself some grace, and we’ll see you (hopefully) in 2026!
