Warrior of Light - Paladin Cloak

Hey guys! Today I am gonna show you guys how I did the only other sewing part of my Paladin build! Its rather simple but its something you can work into loads of other cosplays, hope something in this helps you out!

Materials:

First thing I did was measure out the length of my body from my neck to my ankles, you may need help with this! Mine came out to around 56 inches but you will need to adjust according to your height.

The basic design of the cape is really simple and this whole thing is a rather beginner-friendly sewing project. Here is the pattern I drafted up for this, because this is a back only pattern it means it won't go over your shoulders so you can sew this all in one part.

Once you have your piece cut out copy the pattern over onto your lining fabric and repeat the process!

Go ahead and sew down the fabric together with your prefered stitch, I use a simple straight stitch for this. Sew all along the edges EXCEPT for the part where the hood will connect to the cape ON THE LINING, you will be hand sewing this down later, you can however sew down the main white fabric with the machine. Once done turn the fabric inside out, that way the seams are on the inside now.

When I make a pattern I usually just tape a bunch of printed paper together and draw out my desired shape

I wanted this to be an oversized hood but thats just my preference! Heres the measurements I have for my hood, you will be cutting out this pattern four time, two for the white fabric and two for the blue.

Sew down the two blue fabrics together at the blue highlighted spot I have on the pattern above and then do the same for the white fabrics. After, sew the two pieces together along the green highlighted section, DO NOT Sew the bottoms together.

When you're sewing the hood to the cape you are sewing the red highlighted sections together, remember to not sew the lining together, you will be hand stitching this.

Before hand sewing the down together I added in a wire to the rim of the hoodie, that way I could adjust and keep the hood the exact shape I wanted the entire time, this is an extra thing but I love how it looks personally! I made a small tunnel at the end of the hoodie by top stitching the hoodie one inch from the seam line, that way the wire will not shift in the hoodie.

When stitching the hoodie you can do multiple kinds of stitch but a ladder stitch is a preferred method, I also use a curved hand sewing needle to make it easier to sew.

While I am hand stitching I also sew down these tiny clasps, this is how I will be connecting the hoodie to the armor!

So....you're supposed to sew the emblem down onto the cape but something this small in details would be rather hard to do and not have it puker/move too much so I used E6000 and glued it down and let it dry for 24 hours. The fabric was printed by the DangerousLadies but you can also get a similar custom print from Spoonflower and print the design on Suede!

And with that the cape was done!
