In praise of truly great choreography

Hihi! I’m working on a video, it’s titled IN PRAISE OF TRULY GREAT CHOREOGRAPHY.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on some of the best or your favorite choreographies of all time. I’m not just talking your favorite cus you like it but choreo that you truly believe stands tall and above others, maybe even elevates the song itself! Maybe you thought a song was meh but you saw the choreo and it made you fall in love?

Comments may be featured in the video so if you don’t want to see your name and profile pic in a video please don’t comment~

Hoshi - Spider One of the most underrated solo song The way Hoshi was able to express the way he’s trapped in feelings as a spider web is a jewel in « stage-ology » BTS - ON a piece of art from the young choreographer, Sienna Lalau, which was 19 at the time I believe ? Seventeen - Super because hey… who hasn’t been impressed by this choreo ? Honestly ? :D

ITZY - It'z summer, for me it's so much better with choreo.

izone - fiesta, seventeen - super, enhypen - drunk dazed, xg - gala or shooting star

If I had to pick one that blows my mind every single time is "Everybody" by SHINee. That choreo is crazy, and the live versions are bananas.

There are so many! I love how much room there is in k-pop for choreographers to really stretch. Some that I keep thinking about: Jimin's solo Set Me Free Part Two - the choreo adds so much meaning, the video is stunning. It all comes together as a singular work of art. TXT Opening Sequence isn't one I see talked about a lot, but I love it - it's full of texture changes that are harder than they look and I think it really suits the song. Anything by XLOV is unlike anything else in k-pop. I'm torn between 1 & Only, choreographed by a member of Jam Republic, and Bizness, which the members choreographed themselves. They modified a Harlem Shake to use a skirt. Enhypen Bad Desire - I never disliked the song or anything, but the choreo is *mesmerizing.* Maybe I'm a sucker for a texture change, but this one incorporates tutting - honestly it looks to me Keone plus tutting. I don't know the actual choreo team's work but I hope they'd take that as a compliment. Seventeen's Maestro is a weird song - musically I mean - which isn't a bad thing, I like it when people take creative risks. The choreo is creative to match - particularly the dance break. Lots of Seventeen songs could be on this list. There's also lots of gorgeous stuff on Studio Choom' s Artist of the Month but I don't know if that's really what you're looking for. Hoshi's Spider, Sung Hanbin's Bad Boy, and the Jungwon & Ni-Ki duet are all favorites of mine. TWS - I don't think their track Plot Twist would have made quite such a splash without the really adorable choreo. That's Choi Youngjun's work, who also works with Seventeen a lot. V's solo Singularity is another standout piece for me. Creative and compelling. Jimin's Filter, too - the dance adds meaning. There are honestly so many BTS examples and I have a hard time not just saying all of them. I could go on forever, probably 😂

on the boygroup side, thanks by seventeen is one of the most stunning choreos ive seen (and its the reason i initially became interested in seventeen). it works incredibly well with the lyrics of the song, shows off the members and the amount of level and speed changes make it really enjoyable to watch
