CORTIS Documentary ‘What We Want' EP 4

CORTIS Documentary ‘What We Want' EP 4

very valid crash out at the end, PD!! 100% agree!! music is just music!!

I think the difference in 3rd gen is that black producers actually started getting involved in the composing and beat making chair. Before that it was just Korean songwriters trying to emulate something or white or European songwriters trying to emulate something.

You really clocked it with the Cherry Bullet comment. Hands Up is still one of my fave Kpop songs of all time and I was so sad when they disbanded. Honestly you said some crazy similar takes to me this video 😭 I also semi recently educated myself on how the Kpop industry (and just music in general) was built off of Black ideas and culture. This is why I’m pretty heated about some people commenting “they’re one song away from saying the N word” etc about teenage boys who not only acknowledge their musical inspirations but are also actively collaborating with/showcasing POC producers in this documentary! If that makes any sense.. like they’ve clearly been nothing but respectful Anyways yeah social media is a cesspool of bad takes and haters, I’m not worried though because I know CORTIS is already proving them all wrong 😏

For your last comment, I can't agree enough, I have met some kpop fans in real life who had this weird pride that they were first second gen fans and how kpop at the moment is westernised like I had a biggest laugh ever, I am sorry but First and Second gen just ripped of from black music to a point you can find the exact same songs in both scene, Like If you just dig deeper and listen to some 70s, 80s and 90s black music, Rnb, Souls ans such, you can find the exact song in kpop from 1st and 2nd gen... Kpop evolved after 3rd gen in a sense that completely ripping off another black artists and black music became a no go and Acts like BTS started giving credits, learning about the culture, and making their own music and such and the acts behind them followed the lead, Now in kpop you don't see the complete ripp off's but either evolved or similar sounds and Genres.... And what these boys are doing is just making music they themselves like which us the music they grew up on!

I think you would love the MV Behind the Scenes of how they make their videos. Even if you don't react to them and share it here, I think you would enjoy their process. Loved watching your reactions to Cortis (and the documentary) and also your input / expertise on them as a group and their creative talent.

Honestly I am fully invested in this group at this point. Their authenticity, humor, and personalities individually are all so great to see within the group. I hope after checking this documentary out you are more inclined to check out some of their variety interview content from the last couple months & their vlogs. Even the style of videos they post as bonus content just feels so "Cortis" 🤣 Also yea the people that are complaining about the ingenuity of this group & k-pop as an industry just want to live in the era of kpop that they first loved. And as you said, they are not used to/accepting of the fast paced change that occurs in the industry across nearly ALL groups/labels with concept changes, new trends, and musical evolution. I think Cortis has a unique rawness to their process as a group and even the members themselves acknowledge that they are still finding their sound and will continue to grow over time. I absolutely love this group, and they have definitely raised the bar for what I want from debuts going into next year. Gonna be hard for a debut to top Cortis for me.

really want to emphasize that they’re still kids because the hate is crazy especially on keonho he gets hate for the dumbest reasons like he’s 15 they need to chill fr

I think the reason bts were often called a self produced group is because, like kyle said, they were more involved in writing and producing their own music during a time when that wasn’t as common in kpop, at least for groups in big companies. I think that level of creative input really helped us connect with them and the deeper storylines they built over time. Personally, that’s also why I found myself really loving cortis. They remind me a lot of bts in the way that they are so passionate with their work, and I’ve seen other armys say the same. I genuinely believe like you said, that they’re going to bring something really special and new to kpop. It just sucks that they’re getting so much unnecessary hate right now, especially since people are judging them based on assumptions. Like they are still kids and I just hope they don’t lose their spark as they grow. But yeah I’m really rooting for them.

BTS probably gets the title of self produced cause they write most of their own lyrics and i think fans value that more than being the main producer on a song. Also i just did some research and according to KOMCA, RM and SUGA are no 2 and 6 when it comes to idols with the most song credits, above any stray kids or seventeen members, so that's also probably why.
