Not me rewatching this and still cried. But I will only watch the next episode especially episode 6 when I'M ALONE. I don't want them to see me cry a river.

I love this show so much and it frustrates me how Geummyeong is so misunderstood. As an eldest daughter I understand her pain. I too don't want to live the way my parents did but that doesn't mean that I don't love them. People have different outlook in life and I commend Gwanshik for always choosing his wife and his kids but there is nothing wrong with Geummyeong not wanting to go through what her parents did. It's not a bad thing for someone to aim for what a better life is in their belief and her parents want the same thing for her. I have the same exact dynamic with my mom and deep inside I wish that in another life my mom gets to achieve all her dreams instead of having me and my siblings.

28:12 I just love that scene so much! When Aesun tells grown Geum-myeong that she found happiness in her own way and that her life had many picture-perfect moments too, and then we see it from her perspective… it’s just so beautiful. The shot and direction captured it perfectly! IU actually shared in an interview that the scene was written from both Aesun’s and Gwanshik’s perspectives. For Gwanshik, he feels sad that Aesun is stuck in the kitchen in front of a furnace. But for Aesun, the script says “the view outside of the square frame is beautiful.” Watching Gwanshik head to work and Geum-myeong riding her tricycle makes her frame of reference feel beautiful and happy. 🥹

I will say though about Gwangshik's mom, she's only as bad as she is because the grandma treated her so bad as well. That's no excuse for sure but she definitely inherited that bitterness and entitlement from her mother in law imo.

i believe moon so-ri has mentioned in an interview that she believes gwansik showered ae-sun with a lot of love and affection throughout the years, thus she incorporated the softness in playing the character.

Gwan-sik's mom: There is no "surprise" here. The show made it very clear last episode, that her superficial "friendliness" is just a calculated manipulation to seperate ("free") her son from Ae-Sun. That's why we got all these scenes last episode. For example when Gwan-Sik's grandma praises her ruthless cunningness ("You're surprisingly good") or Ae-Sun's grandma sais to Gwan-Sik "ask your mother (not grandma!) what she did/say". Thats why we got the reveal of her conversation with Ae-Sun and thats thats why all the other Haenyeos where so mad about her (not only her grandma). I mean... she literally said: "You don't catch a chicken by chasing it with a stick. You lure it with a worm." That's exactly what she said and then did. Just because somebody sounds "friendly" doesn't mean they're actually your friend or have your best interest at heart. And yes there was her look at the end of last episode. I agree that I dislike the mother even more than grandma, because at least the grandma made it very clear how she felt. So no, Gwan-Siks mother didn't change since last episode. Just now there is no need anymore to pretend to be friendly.
