Any advice appreciated 😌

Hey guys

The following is A LOT and genuinely I’m seeking advice so I can get better. Please do not feel inclined to read further if the idea of me being in pain is too much for you.

So what I thought would just pass in a day or two has been stretching into the weekend. I’ve been sick for five days now and when it feels like I’m about to be fine, I have been bed ridden.

I initially thought I had just a fatigue issue from lack of sleep but I think I may have COVID. I could really use any advice from folks who have been through this.

I am either incredibly cold, as if I’m in a tundra—no matter how layers I literally cannot stop shaking violently both my teeth and my body.

The only remedy has been to take a bath in hot water and overheat myself. This causes me to dehydrate quickly and sweat profusely.

I have not been able to sleep for two nights because my sweating is profuse that it literally leaves my bed damp.

My doctor isn’t open on weekends so I’m going to try to go on Tuesday. But if I don’t sleep another two nights, I will be at my wit’s end.

Really really open to any and all advice until I can get to a doctor!

I've never had Covid but 'm sorry that you are going through this. Try to stay hydrated (get some electrolytes delivered, they may help pick you up a bit physically. Feel better soon.

Sorry to see this message late. I am a doctor, for the fever if it is not too cold try to uncover as much as possible, apply cold water compresses on your forehead, neck, stomach as well as the inside of your thighs if possible. You can take paracetamol to help lower the fever, no more than 3g per day with an interval of at least 6 hours between a 1g cp and another. It is important to hydrate yourself so you must drink plenty of water. You can take vitamin C if you have it. Thyme-based herbal teas can sometimes help in this kind of situation. I don't know how it works in the US but where I live it is common to give an antibiotic if a person has COVID even if it is a virus in itself. If there are no other complications you should start to get better in a few days, I know that the first few days are very difficult I went through it, a lot of fever at night and lower back pain that was unbearable. I wish you to heal as quickly as possible, try not to stay in bed and walk a little even if it is just back and forth in your apartment, staying in bed for a long time is not good. I'm sorry if my English is not perfect it's not my mother tongue. If you have any questions I'm here :)

Okay hear me out... Try steam Inhalation. we call it "Suob" in the Philippines. My mom taught me this hehe. Get a basin fill it with steaming hot water and then add lots of vicks vapor rub in the hot water. Get a blanket and cover yourself with it with the concoction. while you're inside the blanket, Inhale the steam from your nose and exhale from your mouth. Do this for 20 minutes. of course if you feel too hot from the steam, you can take a break. You'll fee sticky after but it really helps from my experience. I do this when I get really sick (like I feel like imma die sick). Also, drink lots of water and just rest up. And get tested if you can. Get well soon PD! 🙏🏼

Others here can provide more information than me, so the only thing I can suggest is to find a way to fall asleep. I cannot tell if you have any sleeping pills at your place right now and if it is a good idea to take them if you haven’t seen the doctor yet. But at least some “regular pill against pain” could help your body relax for a couple hours and then you might be able to sleep at least a bit

Another med student here but what I've heard from a few patients is that fluids are truly key. Your body absorbs room temp water the best, but be sure to intermix a sports drink or anything with electrolytes every once in a while so your sodium doesn't drop. Any kind of fever breaker (advil is the go to usually) can help for a few hours. I'd say start at 600mg every 4-6 hr since you're symptoms are severe and see how that goes. In patient we give up to 1000mg every 4 hrs so don't worry about damage. Someone else mentioned keeping an ice pack around for when you have the sweats and that is a great idea just remember to move it around and keep it more near your core. Can always throw on a wet dish cloth on your forehead too. And I know hospital are fucking expensive and ridiculous but please go to an ER if you faint or if you feel yourself getting worse!!

Go to ER

**shakes fist at US medical system** COVID sucks. Not a medical professional, but definitely keep yourself hydrated. Mix a sports drink and water to make sure you're still getting some salt and sugar if your food intake has been lower. If you have a heating pad or hot water bottle - use them. Sorry can't be of much help. Hope you manage to get some rest :(

You might have Pneumonia or the Flu rather than Covid.... I've had covid twice (2022,2024) and if I hadn't known what it was, I would have taken one day off and gone back to work. But I have had what you describe, although not for so long. Both times my symptoms were severe chest congestion in the space of about 6 hours. I had a cough for 24 hours, mild fever, couldn't sleep. And...that was it. The exhaustion lasted about 3 weeks after, each time. Is there someone nearby you can call if you have an emergency? Or just need someone to sleep on the couch?? Please get someone to check on you every few hours, ok? If you can manage it, read the weekly thread on r/Covid: https://www.reddit.com/r/COVID19positive/comments/1kkn1jh/weekly_i_think_i_have_it_thread_week_of_may_12/
