A bit late to this but I believe it has been confirmed by the director that they tried to cast a trans actress, and they couldn't find any, exactly because acting is not easily accessible to trans people and trans people can't really step into fame in Korea. It's not as culturally acceptable yet:/ I love how he acted as Hyunju, I love how they portrayed her and later on too how everyone else views her in the game. It's very real, raw and very "human" at points. Plus she's such a cool character. I think that's a great step to a good direction, even if in theory an actual trans actress playing her would be best.

He had to resign from some big future projects & commercials afterwards and pretty much ruined his great portrayal of this character on Squid Game.

2025-02-04 00:21:53 +0000 UTCOne small explanation: Probation means you don’t have to go to jail unless you break the law during the time of probation. So since T.O.P did not break anything during that time of probation, he did not have to go to jail for the time he was sentenced to

2025-02-02 14:24:54 +0000 UTCI really don't blame T.O.P for dissappearing for all these years because his whole scandal was so fucked... I get that weed is illegal in Korea, as it is also illegal where I'm from, but seriously? ALL THAT JUST FOR SOME WEED? So disproportionate (I hope I spelled that right, English isn't my native tongue lmao). On the opposite end, I genuinely think a certain someone who was perhaps at one point also part of BIGBANG (even the members have been talking about OT4 for a while so🤔), could've been met with far more hatred and his punishment was a joke. As far as I'm aware, that prick is just living his life right now, planning to open another club and flying people out to lavish resorts. He served only 18 months out of a 2 year sentence, T.O.P served 10 months with a 2 year probation... When I heard T.O.P would return to acting with this season, I literally thought the reports were false until the trailer came out. I wouldn't have been surprised if he would've never returned. The way his attempt was used as fuel to ridicule him further, with no empathy or hesitation, really opened my eyes to how ruthless the industry is. It was very sad to hear how his family doesn't want to watch this season because of the role he took, and because of how much of a caricature it is of T.O.P and his experience. I think he was very brave to return like this.

2025-02-02 11:29:47 +0000 UTCAha! You did not know T.O.P’s character is called Thanos, so you did not get my joke: “Bring Me Thanos” 😅😅 T.O.P’s case with weed started with the fucking snitch Han Seo Hee, who snitched on B.I and tried to (or helped the person with doing that) cancel Wonho, which led to him leaving Monsta X. She was a YG trainee and she was dealing illegal substances to many people, including T.O.P and B.I. (She comes from very rich family, so she had money and she managed to get out of troubles a couple times…). And after her snitching on him, they made those tests you mentioned. It was not like: “They out of nowhere decided to test that”. But apparently when they test that, they go really deep with that… And obviously T.O.P did not say it out loud, but the attempt of ovedosing himself was related to the whole scandal of his. Regarding Thanos… Besides all of this, there are more layers, which are interesting to think about. For example T.O.P being the idol, who was supposed to go to space/moon, which is easily related to the Marvel Thanos as a being not from Earth. Then him being the “villain” here, but being liked the most apparently (something similar to what happened with the Marvel Thanos), I don’t know man… I don’t want to say: “Something has been intentionally planned here”, but the hype BIGBANG has gotten recently is huge and apparently T.O.P played a big role in it, mainly within global fans/people not interested in Kpop. Therefore… it all made me think… is there a chance that he left BIGBANG as T.O.P, but he will come back as Thanos? 🤔😅

2025-01-26 16:18:13 +0000 UTCAppreciate your thoughts on this!! Of all shows I think the cultural insight is especially needed , yes themes in the show ring true for all societies and it’s been brought to a global platform, but looking at the nuances to understand a story in my non native language i would always want to know the social/historical context especially when the point is it’s social commentary

2025-01-26 07:14:24 +0000 UTCi recommend you read some of T.O.P’s interviews he’s had for this promotion! 🥲 him talking about why it was a struggle to accept a character like this, etc. he also talks about his own music he’s been making and will present us with. proud of him, can’t imagine how hard it would be to go in front of the korean public for even just an interview 🥲
