Listening Party: Stray Kids 'HOP' HIPTAPE

Comments

This album is so good! I had the hardest time even ranking this (harder than usual) because everything was so different and it was hard to figure out what I liked more than others. I think having the two lists made sense, because what I liked at first due to what I figured were the best on the album was different compared to the songs that I kept replaying. You mentioning how Hyunjin's solo seemed just fine, but with the last 20 secs changed the perspective - that's how I was with all of these songs! The outros for Felix, I.N, Changbin and Seungmin's bridge definitely made my list difficult. As of right now, Chan, Lee Know, I.N and Felix are my most repeated. Changbin, which was also lower for me, has been climbing. You could never go wrong with any of these songs though and to hear them mature through their solos is so fascinating as a fan of theirs. I also can't wait to hear their next comeback because they do seem to be experimenting and changing things up and I'm excited for it!

Gillian

yes I remembered this. I think I commented on the s-class listening party about this too. And how almost every time, even PD not watching the INTRO videos to albums and other bts stuff, seems to always say exactly what the song or album is about. Which is crazy and amazing.

Sandy Cai

I see into the future

Jet

yea i was rewatching the maxident listening party and at 16:45 you mentioned there was a tier above A class HAHAHAHAHAH i was like is PD a seer??? or is chan just lurking here

memewei

WHAT

Jet

Changbin’s musical style speaks to a lot of my personal tastes so that might be why!

Jet

Oh no 😟

Jet

Yessirrrrr!

Jet

I mentioned that?? Maybe it was just meant to be

Jet

MV SOLO REACTION PLEASE

Sandy Cai

I dare to say we will get HyunJin’s solo album or any member’s solo album sooner than “in the far future”. Obviously at the latest time possible it will be around their enlistment time, which is in 2027 with Lee Know (considering Bang Chan does not have to enlist). But I can see it happening way sooner MAYBE by the end of this year. This special album and it being mixtape AND them marking this as their second chapter makes me feel like this might be meant as the pre-debut mini album Mixtape their released before their (now probably so called) chapter 1. I personally divide their career into 3 phases as it is now: 1) Mixtape/debut - Clé series 2) Go Live - Maxident 3) 5 Stars - nowadays Technically we can say that Rockstar mini album is the “peak” and now they are having fun and experimenting, but I personally think that started to happen with 5 Star album and them performing at VMAs, them comparing themselves to the big names in its b-side Hall of Fame. So now it is just up in the air if this having fun will continue for a bit or if the next comeback will be the game changer for them. Anyway… out of all the solos Changbin’s and Han’s are the favorite ones of mine and it is hard for me to pick only one.

WiseSmellyLegs

Felix’s song is from the perspective of “the beast” from beauty and the beast

This is definitely one of my favorite albums from them now. The solos are all just so uniquely them. This is what I want from every group for all the members to have solos like this to show us who they are as individual artists not just part of a group. Its always hard to tell members apart with just a few lines each. But solos like these really show us who they are and its why I love music so much! Hans is by far my favorite!! We know from his Lee Mujin Service episode that he loves OneOkRock and I can totally hear that influence in it. I need him and Taka to sing this! Han could totally go as a soloist rockstar and I'm just waiting for the day when he does! Also Hold My Hand is just such a beautiful emotional song and Han can sing with that emotion so effortlessly it gives me chills 🥶 My list personally is Han, Chan, I.N, Changbin, Hyunjin, Seungmin, Felix, and Leeknow. Leeknows is prob my lowest, just not my vibe. Changbin is my bias and his song is exactly what I was expecting from him! However, it would have been amazing to hear something not like what we are expecting. So pretty much agree with you the same except Leeknow isn't my favorite.

Alison Renaud

Hello po are you gonna watch the solo mvs? 🥹

Aid

usually i fear solo because the quality usually varies quite a lot and can be underwhelming but oh my god these solos are incredible, very special colours. and srsly the music videos are so good. I'm so impressed by our artists. my favourites are seungmin, i.n, han, lee know, bang chan

hai_rene

love bounce back! i also highly recommend the concert performances from beyond live seoul along with the solo MVs :)

evehsu

the performances for the solos really bring the songs to life, i highly suggest the music videos!

lilian

Definitely react to their MVs for their solos, they're crazy

Nick Wolf

since they let us know all their plans at the beginning of the year, so you know, stray kids are releasing 2 albums this year :D my top 3 is the same as yours, just in a diff order, youth, then railway, then unfair :D excited for you to see the intro for this album 😊

Marii

ikr!! ive been playing saiyan on repeat since it came out , like im obsessed

Malaki.H

Aguardo ansiosamente pelas reações e análises dos MVs.

Karina Fayasho

Cant wait to see You reacting to their videos. Specialy bangchan

Carolina Rojas

omgg you have to listen to their recent japanese album, it’s like the greatest collection of songs i’ve ever heard. i don’t know how they keep getting better

Allison McBride

your expressions during railway had me DYING hahahah can't wait for your reactions to live performances and the MV lmao

JJ

Omg PD you know changbin’s style so well because yeah he made hallucination for the whole group at first but ultimately gave it to i.n. I was shocked when you said it sounds like a group song by changbin because it is, respect

Nelly R

PD u reallllyyy need to check out the solo song MVs and their respective concert performances!! there are beyond live performance recordings on youtube for the solos

0325lix

I recommend watching the intro first, as they talk about the meaning of the songs and the making of the mvs, and then watching the solo mvs, so you understand them better! The videos surely enhance the songs even more.

champiñón

Oh PD! We're quite different with our rankings haha. Mine would be Han, Changbin, Bangchan as top three and for the group songs nothing beats bounce back for me. Do you know that every member has filmed music videos for their solos? They are really worth a look! And if you want to watch the intro to the album: As usual they talk about the album, the writing progress of the songs and there are snippets of their recording. It's really interesting if you want to check it out. I'd always recommend the intros because they give so much extra knowledge to the album

Every single time SKZ releases a new album, I'm like "yeah, THIS is why they are my favourite group of all time", and this album is no different. I do enjoy and stan other groups but Stray Kids' music just resonates with me on a whole other level. For the group tracks, bounce back was my favourite, but now that I'm relistening to Walking on Water HIP ver., I'm kind of reconsidering. Admittedly, I didn't listen to it much because it was a remix and I didn't really process the song yet LOL I had the opportunity to see SKZ perform their solo songs live during their concert in October before this was released and it was probably not the best way to experience the songs live for the first time - everyone was screaming so I couldn't hear the song and lyrics well, and my view was pretty bad ;-; BUT i will say that the performances and stage really enhanced these songs. Some highlights include the rainbow confetti during Han's hold my hand and just the whole stage during Seungmin's song (here's a pic I took!!: https://imgur.com/a/5NBhDo9 ) I really appreciate how all the solo songs have shown how much each member has grown musically and boy... after itzy's yeji's solo debut announcement I honestly think the possibility of a member going solo could very well pop up (although idk how they would fit it in this year with their tour + fanmeeting in feb + 2 albums to be released this year). On a personal level, I have listened to Minho's and Seungmin's songs the most. With the other songs, I feel like I have to be in a certain mood to listen to them lol. But in terms of how innovative each song is for the member, I think Railway and Hallucination definitely take the cake. I do love and enjoy each and every song in this album though!! It's a lot but I hope you can react to the MVs and the intro video for this album! Also I know more and more acts are starting to have their comebacks but if you do get the chance, please check out their japanese album as well <3

cy

PD, this might spark your attention on I.N’s Hallucination more, he is being called “Taemin protégé” after this

Sven Lenders

Changbin actually wrote it for SKZ as a whole, but since I.N really liked it he asked if he could have the track. I.N changed the rap sections (meaning he didn't just change the way changbin's lyrics sounded to melodic rapping) but rewrote the melodies to those sections and added his own lyrics. It's why I.N is credited equally as both a lyricist and composer on Hallucination - it's as much his song!

Aiz

Hallucination was actually Changbin’s song, but Changbin gave it to I.N after he got Ultra. I.N changed some raps into melodic rapping

Sven Lenders

I genuinely really think the EXPERIENCE of the solo songs are complete once you 1. watch the music videos and 2. see them perform it on stage! You can really tell that the solos are the boys wanting to perform something on tour that's very much Them. I really liked Youth, Railway and Hallucination but it was their performance in their music videos that really elevated the songs for me, epecially Lino's. I believe most of them personally sought out directors that would make their vision come to life. I also had the chance to see the solos live and Han's Hold my hand is SO SO GOOD live (hes such a rockstar) that it made me ascend to another plane of existence....I'm so serious, it became my favourite so quickly and I haven't stopped listening to it since. A close second that was a favourite live performance is Seungmin's and Hyunjin's for very different reasons. Seungmin's music video is just downright beautiful. TL;DR PD please watch the music videos if possible! I really feel like the true hiptape experience isn't complete until you experience the MVs, and if youre up to it (and not going to the dominATE tour this year) the live performances!

Aiz

I haven’t listened to the solos yet, but I could not wait for you with U and the Hip version, because… you know it gets serious when Tablo steps in… + the pure fact of: “We had to chain ourselves a bit and we could not release the “hip hop hip hop” version of Walking On Water as the title track version, because that would be too much” This aspect of this group and in general the fact of Stray Kids being so hip hop based despite being under JYP (compared to their previous acts) has always fascinated me and although I have gotten used to it be now, they still managed to let me flabbergasted!! I am truly glad I will finally manage to see them live in France this year!!

WiseSmellyLegs

PD you have to check out the mvs for the solo songs

Malaki.H

They are songs made for the tour performance. If you watch the INTRO and watch the music video together, you'll understand the solo songs. Actually, it's the best to watch it on the concert stage.
