No, you do not want them to pick up sound from each other. Each ear picks up its own sound, therefore so should the mics. The idea is to capture sound with mics in the same way that the ear does naturally. If your mics are omnidirectional then they pick up sound from all directions, therefore each will pick up the same sound. If the mics are unidirectional then they only pick up sound from the direction they are 'pointed to'. This is closest to the human ear. It still isn't perfect because the ear form is missing. The ear form isn't used on expensive binaural sets so it looks like an ear, it is used to shape sound the same way a real ear does. What I think is more important: Maria isn't concerned about realistic binaural sound, she is concerned with professional sound. Her videos do not have that same 'walk-around / I'm on your left / now I'm behind you / now I'm on your right' effect, but they always sound great. Now yours will as well. Better quality microphones allow for crisp sound (the crinkles and taps sound clean, the voice can be a low whisper but still be heard clearly, etc.) You don't need the 3D sound to dazzle your listeners, just the best sound of you.

Watch this video. It is a magazine piece about ASMR, not an ASMR video. At 6:28 you can see Maria's setup. The key to good binaural sound is the placement of the mics. They need to be spaced the same as the average head, from ear to ear. There is also a directional component, but I'm not sure about that, exactly. I do hope so! Makes sense for it to be, the zoom recognises left and right after all.

Should all be fine and properly binaural when you can connect both mics to the Zoom without any adaptor cables or such like. The Zoom tends to be pretty popular as a recorder so I reckon its a solid choice.

I ordered the zoom H5, because that's what rapunzel asmr uses for her rodes. Hopefully this will deliver a better quality of sound and a louder sound. But because I can plus both mics into the one recorder, maybe that'll sort out the binaural aspect?

Thank you, I actually just made a video with these. The mics weren't binaural even though I changed the channels to left and right. And when I lean back and talk further away from the mics I sound distant.
